D&D Insider Question... - Downloaded from the Wizards Community, all coding removed by Solauren

#1 xtoddh Aug 20, 2014 6:03:27	So, I have a year subscription still for the Dungeons and Dragons Insider and my question is, if my group and I are planning on starting with 5e, is there any point to keep this? Is Wizards planning on updating its content for 5e or are they doing away with this??? Any information would help, thanks!

From the looks of things, they are going to switch over to the new Morningstar thing, but it looks like it will be a pay to use ap? Which makes me wonder if it will be free for D&D Insider subscribers, or if there will be an extra charge?
#3 Skedrix Aug 22, 2014 11:21:02	As far as I know, if you're going to be starting with 5E, D&D Insider won't do you any good. Of course, there has been no mention on the return of Dungeon or Dragon magazine content, and how that may or may not be attached to your Insider subscription, or what sort of content might be available through those magazines if/when they return. It might be the case that the magazine content will still be attached to an Insider subscription, in which case there is the possibility that you could still get some good use out of staying subscribed. However, currently the only application for a DDI subscription is the 4E legacy tools (character builder, adventure tools, compendium, magazine archives). As far as Project: Morningstar--now labeled DungeonScape--goes, the app itself will be free, though certain rumors make it sound as though all you have access to without purchasing additional content would be the pre-generated characters provided in the 5E Starter Set, and the ability to level them up. Trapdoor Technologies, the company behind DungeonScape, has maintained that there will be "a price structure for everybody" (paraphrased), but they have not said what the structure would be. Though they did say that additional content will be able to be purchased. Hobo The Delightful (AKA HoboDelight here on the D&D forums) has answered many of your questions in a post-Gen Con blog post at Trapdoor's official DungeonScape website.

I don't mind paying to download and use additional content ie. basic info from the players handbook or monster manual and I can understand when they would charge you to add future supplements to the app. Too bad all that info is most likely going to live in the cloud somewhere instead of on your tablet and you will have to pay to use it.

DungeonScape will be free to download. There will be enough content available for free to give you a really good feel for what we’re offering. There will be pricing options for everyone – some free content, a la carte options, bundles or one-off purchases. You will never lose access to the digital content you purchase OR create through DungeonScape and once its downloaded to your device, it will be accessible offline. Currently there is no connection between a physical purchase of D&D fifth edition books and digital purchases in DungeonScape. While we have been exploring ways to connect the two, there are many challenges that prevent us from doing so at the moment. The toolset will unlock automatically with content as it is downloaded to your device.
#6 mykesfree Aug 28, 2014 10:59:58	I think there are some 5E mateiral in the last issue or so of Dungeon and Dragon Magazine. So there still could be some worth to the DDI subscribition. I find myself loggin in for content to covert for my 5E game, I really do hope they start up the magazines again.
