Yeah im surprised that people aren't pointing more towards these demos. To me it looks pretty bad ass, certainly look easier to use and prettier than the so called alternatives.

Except the alternatives... exist.

Eh, many of us have seen these and other demos. They were pushing them hard right up to release of the books (but don't take that as the tools were every to be released with the books). Now we find they are still months away from completion.

What we see in the videos may or may not be what we get when DDI is actually (or ever) released. I have seen many Duke Nukem Forever videos out in the wild, I have yet to see the game. I had a CD with the promise of some cool tools with the previous version of DnD and we all know how that turned out.

As for it being better than other tools. Well, my current paid off car may not be as promising the promised flying fuel cells cars of the future, but hey, I can use it now for sure can't I. Being able to actually use a product counts for quite a bit when comparing things.

I hope the VTT and other tools turn out as good or better than the vids, but I am not going to hold my breath on it.

I agree the alternatives exist. They suck in my opinion. And I don't mean in comparison to what I see from DDI, I mean in general. Buggy and a royal pain to use (granted I haven't really played with Maptool) but Batthegrounds and Fantasy Grounds both suck imho. And even that being said, its all of the tools and the community that hopefully will come up with DDI comes out that I will like, tho I have less hopes from that seeing how many people on the forums act.

And if the tools aren't out by the end of the year, then ill start thinking Duke Nukem Forever.

There are some videos now you can download on the insider site for the game table, and the visualizer. Don't recall them being there before....

They have had the trailers for a couple of weeks (give or take a couple days). The trailers are ok but they are quite short and don't show off anything other than the 3d visuals. The videos I posted earlier I think give a much better feel at least for the game table on the different effects such as lighting, how the look for the 3d stuff is, how dice rolls work. Obviously I would have liked to see more.

Those "trailers" for the Character visualizer and the game table? They stink. The character visualizer looks like something from the early part of the new millenium not something from 2007-2008. (I'm talking about the graphical quality, not the content.) The game table trailer looks nice, but that trailer needs different music than the garbage from the character visualizer trailer. Also, the game table trailer makes it look like you will only be able to use the table in 3d for playing and 2d for planning. I think they need to make this point a little more clear since I know quite a few people aren't going to want to pay for the v-minis.

For those that don't want to use v minis or pay for the extra ones, 2d tokens can be used.

Oh so the 2-d version of the table is free or has a one time cost right?

I am unaware saying that but no (as im sure you were aware of). Same cost, you just aren't paying for special v minis (it comes with some plus you can make your own v mini for your character)

SO you had to pay for the 2d, and as an added bonus, you get to pay for the 3d components of a 3d visual application.

Where do I sign up?

Me too! Me too! I want 8 people online in a 3D environment that handles chat, dice and game mechanics! I have FiOS, so the lag won't even be too painful!

Oh wait, I could just save the $180 a year and play on Fantasy Grounds with no lag.
