Hey folks. My friends and I are unfortunately traveling away from each other for a few months, but we want to continue our D&D games, if at all possible.

Are there any free applications (online or otherwise) that would allow for dice rolling? I know some forums have it, but we're really looking for something more real time than play-by-post.

Maybe a pointless post, but I second the RPtools idea. The tutorials are really easy to comprehend and I find the program is just dandy for all my cross-internet needs.

Another free program I have used in the past however is:

You don't really want to play D&D over the internet. You want Campaign Management Tools. A poll said so!

Having tried several, I would recommend RPTools.

My personal favourite is Battlegrounds RPG, but the BRPG website also has a very fine Links page with a listing of dozens of pieces of software (commercial and free) that you might find useful.

I lol'd.

There is also a wiki for MapTool with written tutorials (in case you're like me, and prefer to read instructions instead of watch video tutorials). You can find it hnah.

My sig has another link outside RPtools, but I do like RPtools the best for the free ones.

I also must second the advice for RPTools.

Takes a bit of getting used to but couldn't be easier once you figure out "the logic".

One little piece of advice: during a campaign often do a "Save Campaign As..." and store it in a new file. You might end up with a whole bunch of files after a while but I have had a save corrupt on me which messed up an entire evening's session.

Also the forums are VERY helpful!
