D&D Over the Net?

I realize this post has probably been made a thousand times, so i apologize for the repeat.

I've never played D&D, but have always been interested in playing. I dont know anyone in my area that plays, and we don't have a comic book store or anything here where i could find people to play with.

Is there a certain website, IRC room, program, ect. i can download to meet people that play through the net, learn to play, and join them? I have a decent amount of free time through the day after my college classes are done, and want to fill that time with some monster slaying D&D action.

Apr 11, 2009 12:16:42 You can play RPGs online with any of these programs.

OpenRPG or MapTool might be easier to find games & players on, since they are free programs with a sizable userbase.
