d&dI and internet play?

May 03, 2009 23:52:44 My best friend and I recently started playing D&D again after not having played it since we were middle school students (in our late 20s now). While reading the Dungeon Masters Guide I came across a page explaining that the D&DI allows for internet play and can connect us to an online community to play with. Where we live it's a long drive to even get to a comic shop (to find more players hopefully) so we thought this was cool. Unfortunately neither of us can find this D&DI tool that allows us to play over the internet which was mentioned in the book. We did find all the cool tools but is there really a browser or program that allows us to play together online?

However there are third-party virtual tabletop programs in existence if you want this kind of feature, or alternatively play-by-post forums if you're looking for something a bit slower.

I don't, but I know plenty other people here use them. If you don't get a reply in this thread, start one called, "Third-party VTT suggestions?" or suchlike. Alternatively the Cartographer's Guild forums are pretty big on that kind of thing, check there.

The Dungeon Master's Guide is full of lies.

9 out of 10 times, the DMG is pretty accurate. But yeah, the lack of digital gaming is a disappointment. But I don't mind waiting.

Maptools is a popular online application. I've used it with Skype.
