I speak natively german. So sometimes I have to look up some words, sentences or paragraphs.

In some parts of D&Di the Google translator helps me, but in other parts(CB,Compendium f.e.) it is not availabe or suitable (Dragon adventures are too long).

For me it would be helpful to have a simple translation tool like Google translator integrated inside the D&Di, so I can translate a compendium content, an adventure the character sheet.

It is ok for me that the translation is far away from perfect, but it helps to understand the meaning.

But I need the translation side to side with the original, to avoid missunderstandings.

Are you using the translate function on the Google Toolbar or are you copy / pasting the text into the translator?

I find that the toolbar translates the comendium from English to Danish reasonably well. It would probably do so for German, too. Although you will have to flip between English and German as you can't see both side by side.

Another alternative might be, and I haven't checked this, to set the Google Toolbar translate settings to give you a German translation of an English word on a mouse hover.

I hope this helps, because I wouldn't want you to be holding your breath waiting for Wizards to integrate a translator into the tools.

I use Chrome perhaps this is a problem.

Mar 17, 2011 1:34:38 English is not my first language either (or even a second one). I always had problems with some unknown words. I remember that when I first bought D&D I didn't even know what "dungeons" meant and I had to use the dictionary to find out... (I was about 9-10 years old at the time). :P
However, now I understand almost everything, except few words that sometimes could be key-words in order to understand the plot/story/whatever. So this is what I do.
I print the article (if it's not in a book) and read it from the paper. I noticed that it's easier this way, maybe because I am more focused and there are less distractions. Whenever I find an "unknown word" I underline it and then I type the first letters in a translator app that I have installed in my iphone (you could use google tranlator or anything else that fits your needs) till I find the word. Then I write the meaning with my pencil over the underlined word.
The second time that I read the text, I automatically read both the english word and the meaning which helps me not only understand but also learn the word.
It is not the easiest/ fastest way and it could not be aplied to anything (it would be madness to print out every comendium entry), but is going to be more useful in the future, than a google translation on the fly - which sometimes is harder to understand than the original text...
