#2 Kentinal Sep 13, 2009 2:06:26	Last I knew credit card was preferred way, Paypal was implimented as well, however paypal appeared to require on sign up a credit card number as part of the process (This might have been changed as I have not read thread recently). Sone have advised using cash cards, however I have not seen any reports of how well that has worked.   As to not being old enough to own a credit card, odds are you are not too old. There have been examples of pets being given credit cards. I will grant being under age clearly makes it harder to get a credit card. There however might be an option of having family or friend allow you to become an authorized user of their credit card. It should be noted, last time I read terms of use, that the system was planned for under age to become members with adult permission.  I do not know how well that is going overall.   For better information contacting CustServe might be useful.
#3 dalzig Sep 13, 2009 11:56:45	To subscribe, you either need a valid credit/debit card or a Paypal account.  To get a Paypal account, you need to be "18 years old" and have a valid bank checking/saving account (some restrictions apply).
#4 Orcboss Sep 13, 2009 12:23:33	Many banks offer Visa or MasterCard branded gift cards that essentially are just debit cards.  One of those might work.

#8 Quartermane Sep 22, 2009 14:43:22	I have a question also about D&DI Subscriptions. I didn't see a point of starting a new post, so I thought I would throw this out here. I am really thinking about subscribing and this might sound silly to ask. But I want to make sure I am understanding this. If I subscribe with the 5.95 plan, your credit card is only charged monthly correct? I understand that the total for the year is $71.40, but I want to make sure that the bill is still monthly. May sound silly but just making sure. Thanks.
#9 whitebaron Sep 22, 2009 14:52:24	well, it isn't. if you subscribe for the cheapest price, the lump sum is deducted from your account immediately. you don't get it at 5.5$, you get it at the 72$ yearly. the wording could be a bit better, but that's the way it is - the discount given is for paying upfront, not for commiting yourself for longer. this is btw the common way to do such stuff - my newspapers, magazines, comics subscriptions also don't charge me per issue, but on longer terms (daily newspaper - once per month. monthly mag - once per year. monthly comic - once every 2 years)

But for the time being I can't afford $70 bucks coming out of my account at once. But at the same time, it would be nice to have it done and processed then I get the year and don't worry about it. Decisions, decisions. I might do one month for now just to see. Thanks again for the response.
#11 whitebaron Sep 22, 2009 15:29:36	keep in mind that if you go for the one month option, that this is STILL a aubscription. so you'd need to cancel autorenew after you signed up - or your card will be billed again, with the higher rate.

I am getting that same issue right now: Trying to sign up via paypal, but it lands me on a page with a warning: "To complete your purchase, please add a new credit card or debit card." This is counter to the entire reason for using paypal in the first place. I do not have, nor do I plan on getting, a credit card. Why Digital River completely fails in this regard on this transaction is rather beyond me... Payments via paypal are generally very straightforward. (and the mandatory subscription renewal checkbox is rather irritating too, while on the subject of DnDi subscriptions)
