| #1falcon_goldMay 22, 2008 17:07:44 | I have been looking everywhere for solid answers on the following questions but I have found mixed answers from different times So I'm going to pose them here in hopes someone more informed than I can assist. 1. (multi-part question) If I buy the standard books and I wish to sell them to a friend in October to get the collectors editions of the books, can I transfer the unique code used for DDI to him and use my collector's edition codes? or will I have to give him my collector's edition code? if I have to give him my CE codes, has there been any talk of DDI benefits to the CE version (such as CE Virtual minis, etc.). If there is no way to transfer codes and there is special content and I decide to "suck it up" and get both versions can i "over write" my regular code with my CE code? 2. is there any official release date for the DDI tools? Ive read many things that have said it should launch with the books, and other things that say the beta trials should be available until the books come out (but beta trials haven't started yet have they?). there have even been sites that don't mention anything about a release but they seem to imply that the tools are still going to be a while after the actual release of 4th edition. 3. Is it possible to fully play 4th ed with JUST the tools (no books, etc.) or if you don't have the book will the tools just tell me to look it up in the book on page X? (basically I am looking for ways of playing that might be a little inconvenient until the CE editions come out, so I can JUST purchase those). 4. Is the pricing still to be determined? Ive read 2 different pricing schemes, 1 was 12.95 per month unless you get the 12 month then it is 9.95 and the other being just 9.95 a month 5. Ive heard talk of subscribers getting a certain number of "guest passes" and then having to pay for more beyond that. Has any of this been further detailed? do they mean a subscriber will get X permanent guest passes (like for every game session I can invite like 2 of my friends as guests and then I have to pay beyond that) or are the free "guest passes" that subscribers get like tickets, and you expend them for every person you invite (so if you have a session a week you might blow all your guest tickets on the first game night and have to pay for every guest for every other session). 6. Is there a way to sign up for the beta? or do I just need an insider (or RPGA) account (Ive heard mixed things). 7. Will the tools be monthly only? or is there an initial price of entry (like buying one of the books or like a 10 dollar "purchase")? 8. if you own 1 virtual mini (lets say the beholder), can you use infinite copies in the digital table top? or do you need to buy multiple copies (buying multiple copies = lame) for each one you have on the table you have at a time? I know that not all of these have been answered yet but There is so much info out there and sifting through it has only confused me further. Any help is appreciated! |

I will answer the questions related to the client applications (I am the producer for those) or some technical aspect. For the other questions, I'll do my best to provide links to other relevant source of information, when I can. There will not be any codes in the books. This plan has been discarded. 2. is there any official release date for the DDI tools? Ive read many things that have said it should launch with the books, and other things that say the beta trials should be available until the books come out (but beta trials haven't started yet have they?). there have even been sites that don't mention anything about a release but they seem to imply that the tools are still going to be a while after the actual release of 4th edition. There are multiple different elements in the D&D Insider project , and each individual element will be released when it is ready. You can refer to Bill Slaviczek ampersand column for more details on the Beta and releases. 3. Is it possible to fully play 4th ed with JUST the tools (no books, etc.) or if you don't have the book will the tools just tell me to look it up in the book on page X? (basically I am looking for ways of playing that might be a little inconvenient until the CE editions come out, so I can JUST purchase those). the D&D Insider tools are not designed to replace the books, but to complement them. 4. Is the pricing still to be determined? Ive read 2 different pricing schemes, 1 was 12.95 per month unless you get the 12 month then it is 9.95 and the other being just 9.95 a month You can also refer to Bill Slaviczek ampersand column . 5. A guest pass will give somebody access to the D&D Game Table for a set amount of time (likely to be 24 hours). Once available, guest passes can be obtained as part of your subscription benefit, or bought individually. 6. Is there a way to sign up for the beta? or do I just need an insider (or RPGA) account (Ive heard mixed things). There is not yet a way to sign up for the public Beta. Some of the D&D Insider elements will be launched directly to the public, others will have a Public Beta. We will take sign ups for these when we are ready to do so. 7. Will the tools be monthly only? or is there an initial price of entry (like buying one of the books or like a 10 dollar "purchase")? Subscription to D&D Insider is a monthly subscription fee. |
