A few days ago, I got a press release from Wizards announcing that D&D Encounters: Dark Sun players would be able to create their own characters for the last five weeks of that season, rather than being stuck with the pre-generated characters. But now I read that Dark Sun won't be available for DDI until September 21, which is after Encounters: Dark Sun is over. Is this really true? |
| #2The_JesterAug 16, 2010 18:55:07 | I haven't heard anything, but the new content (themes, wild talents) is content the Character Builder wasn't designed to incorporate. New powers and feats tend to be easier to slip in, especially since they've stopped adding all the feat modifiers to relevant powers. New content that actually modifies statblocks tends to be harder so I can see a couple week delay adding the Dark Sun material. Disappointing, but they are understaffed and I would rather have it done right then done poorly. That said, there's no information about this elsewhere and they don't have the content calenders for next month finished until the very end of the month, so who knows? |

Well, VampireGuy - despite his pictoresque handle - is the Business Manager for our studio so, yeah, I would take what he says as pretty much "the word" ![]() |

That doesn't mean you also get an early DDI CB update. Athas is a brutal world... you make your PCs by hand! ![]() It is just an option. The pregens are just fine if you have a good DM that adjusts difficulty (and chapter 3 is, like chapter 2, of reasonable difficulty overall). You can take a pregen and make a few simple modifications. You could hunt down any of the gameday/DDXP/Gen Con pregens and advance them (easy to do). You could make one from scratch. Just options. I help organize 40+ DDE players at our gaming store. I would guess about 1-2 people per table are considering making their own PC. Of those, they seem to characterize having an updated CB as cool but not critical. |
