May we please have a simplified character sheet choice that doesn't require me to print out 7 pages every time I level? Ink is more expensive than unicorn blood. Perhaps a format similar to those lovely D&D Encounter pre-gens?

Thank You.

If you don't mind playing around in a paint program it is pretty easy to create a single page sheet just by printing to PDF (image) and then using paint to cut and paste the components as you wuold like them laid out.

Yes I agree they need a better sheet layout but then everyone wants the sheet slightly different. Still the Encounter layout is easy to use and especially good for beginers.

Sure, I could do that. I've seen this suggested before. But it seem like a lot of work to repeat that process EVERY TIME I LEVEL. Before creating this thread, I was typing my character up in Word and got 1/4 through the powers before I started  to get angry. I thought to myself, "what happened to the days when your D&D character would fit on a single sheet of loose-leaf paper, hand-written?" Do I truly need to do this much work to get to the fun? To have a character that I can glance at and know what he can do without flipping through 6-7 pages or fiddling with a table littered with power cards?

Sorry for the rant. I know you are trying to help.

Well, I don't mind the more detailed character sheets as it provides a lot more information and the ones in Encounters are often missing something from the power, etc or a feat choice that would be nice to know.  I can see them having another option for character sheets the standard sheet, an Essentials character sheet, and an Encounters version of the sheet, however to be frank and honest while the game table is exciting and we can talk about different character sheet option the thing I would be more impressed with is if they developed a real PDF option for Character Builder.  I have cutePDF but since CB is not real PDF it is a real pain to deal with even with cute pdf.  No other character building website do I have this problem with for example I use a HERO LAB for a lot of other games and it is great.  So, yeah, a PDFs sometime soon would be my top choice of an improvement for CB.   I mean for real how long has this program been out now not to have a PDF option?

Back at the beginging of the year, around May, the subject of different character sheets came up. Someone from WoTC, I believe it was Trevor, mentioned that it was on their to do list and probably would be soon.

I pointed out this request had been around since the online version came out, and we had been hearing the Soon from WoTC for a while.

Then Asmodeouslore came and putting on his, this isn't official word hat, but trying to sound all official to put a complainer in his place, said, well, it probably won't be June, so look towards July.

It's Decemeber and since that one time back in May, WoTC said they know people have been asking for this, and it's important to them as well, and then nothing.

Now, perhaps different character sheets are a reality now. Since my account ended in Novemember, and I don't recall checking the CB in October, I could be wrong.

I'll second this.  Options in the area of character sheets are always welcome, and the Encounters character cards are really nice.

I would like to add can we have a PDF version? Instead of just an image.

I know it's been asked before, but seriously by now we should be able to print in a proper format.

edit: Using a print to pdf option creates an image for each page, instead of encoded text and image as a pdf file. For instance if I "print to pdf" this forum page I get a PDF that I can select text from and edit using a pdf editor. However if you print to pdf from the character builder you get an image for each page that is not text and cannot be selected nor edited - short of using image editing software.

edit2: unless you are refering to this option:
silverlightpdf.codeplex.com/

Which is a bit needlessly complex.

edit3: Maybe I should just post again?
www.free-ocr.com/

This works great on the monster builder output for text conversion, but is not so great for character builder.

That's not what he means.

He wants a PDF with editable text, not an image of text. There's a difference.

ah, i must have skipped over the part about it printing as an image. i agree that it would be much nicer to get a proper pdf out of the builder.

I agree on both fronts.  A 'Real' PDF and an "Encounters" Style option would be nice pretty please with elf berries on top Cool.

Depending on your printer you can get two 'pages' side-by-side on one printed page.

I'm 40 years old. My eyes aren't what they used to be, and I think that would be vvveerry small print.
