The database is was active!

Not sure how complete but you can search for stuff!!!!

Let's go test it for WotC and make sure it can handle Day One stress loads before they leave work and can get a chance to see what it can handle to be ready for tomorrow!

EDIT: Nothing is working yet, it is getting ready for maybe next week when we might get to try to Compedium IF we are lucky.

AD&D 1e or 2e. But that isn't the point. How can I say how bad DDI is and not worth the price if I don't even look at it. It would be like complaining an online service didnt' meet its deadline without every being around on or near that deadline to see if it was working. ;)

Also I want to see how they do it so I can see what they did wrong, and how it could have been done better. Already the Compendium search limits the number of records per page and doesn't allow you to get a list of all at once, and then you can sort them, but only one-way sorting in an ascending method. So for Powers tab you could get them sorted lowest level first, but not highest level first.

So that already is a bad sight when database software can sort both ways just as fast in the query. :D

Lots of people are complaining about stuff on these forums without taking a look or playing anything at all. Its also working again, and at least the layout is nice, and there are a few freebies. They just don't work with Mac OSX(bastards).

Also why do you like 1e and 2e. Since one thing I have seen recently is complaining that third and fourth edition are both too complicated. Which I agree with, at least for third edition, its not like I can't keep up with the math and book keeping, its that I don't want to when I know about better options(Fudge Mostly).

The cake is a lie!

I think they're testing it internally right now, and accidentally opened it up to the public. Oh well, was hoping to check a few things (like, say, if Blade Cascade is the same on it as in general).

EDIT: Anyone figure out how to download the Game Table or Dungeon Builder yet?

Nice. Now they only need to get some actual content on that and we can see how well it rolls. :D

Also, at least this time they avoided putting a freaking countdown timer on their page, begging for a massive DDoS (remember the 4E announcement back in august 2007?).

and the http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/insider/compendium link from the Website only says coming soon.

So I'm trying to work out if I've got the problem or they have.

What people are talking is that there is now an advertisement section on the DnD main page that talks about D&D Insider. Has some nice pictures and text about what in theory, possibly when Jesus Christ walks the earth again will come out. None of the software features that were mentioned when 4e was announced are being delivered, the only thing that D&DI will do is provide links to the Dragon and Dungeons online "magazine". On the plus I guess, unless Wizard’s wants to start charging for us to view their online magazine publications, we shouldn't have to be shelling out any money any time soon since none of the premier content people could pay for is being delivered anytime soon. Hell the only reason there are PDFs copies of the books is because they were leaked I believe.

Pretty frakin weak, Wizards. Pretty weak.

At least you figured out how to print the books. Now learn how to hire an IT staff (that can do cross-platform coding!)

Booo urns. This is crap. Release day and no tools. How about you just come over to my house and tell my gaming group who didn't buy intot he 4th edition in the first place that they were right and I was a dolt for following the news and looking forward to it.

Sure it will be cool when it all comes together, but wizards looks like amateur chumps with this release day. Sort that IT department out already. I have yet to see anything above barely capable out of them.

So unimpressed with the online release day stuff.

At least I got my books.

Hi All,

I apologize for us not making it clearer as to what folks should have expected out of D&Di for the 4E launch. We're taking several steps to help out with this. (see below)

The current plan is that we want to get some D&Di functionality available for people in support of the 4E launch. Specifically, we want to have the initial articles from Dragon and Dungeon Magazine available for view, as well as a version of the compendium that has some limited functionality.

The compendium is still under development and you may see (or have seen) it come up and down as our hard working development and operations folks continue to do work on it to prepare it for people to take a look at.

To help communicate our plans about D&Di I've created a Announcements section area where we can post updates and information. So please keep an eye on that for any updated informaton. We also did a GRZ interview with Chief Chris Youngs, which you can visit from our announcement section. Chris explains in his own words, what the plan is for D&Di and what people can expect going forward.

Finally, while WotC_DM and I have both been fairly active on these forums, we're also going to have D&Di Executive Producer Ken Troop jump into the ring and try to answer even more of your questions about D&Di.

Thanks for your patience and understanding!

I have a hard time believing I'd still have a job if this was my work ethic and product delivery.

Not picking on you Mike as Community "messenger", but this is just another announcement in a long list of miss communications and missed expectations.

I agree that we should have done a much better job of communicating our plans and setting proper expectations, but I am hopeful that people will be pleased with what they're starting to see. The first two Dragon articles have been posted as well as the first Dungeon adventure. Please check them out and tell us what you think in the article discussion forums.

So basicly what you are saying is that theres NOTHING new at all... As stated before, tools were supposto be released with the LAUNCH of 4th edition, but well, you all decided not to release them because...

So now, your pawning off dragon and dungeon articles like THAT was the actuall update that was ment all along. You know, the SAME dragon and dungeon articles that we got every month for the past couple months are now touted as being NEW and MAJOR content.

Thats akin to blowing your nose in a kleenex, and putting it back in the box for someone else to use.

Because they're not done? Have you ever used software that was released because of a deadline rather than when it was done? If so, you'd know this was a good thing.

Also, they told everybody a month ago that most of the features wouldn't be in. The rules compendium is the only thing they flopped on.

Thanks for dropping in so late to respond Mike. WotC_DM is MOST helpful with the tech aspects in the DDI sections of the forums. Maybe if one person could spend some time after this initial hoopla of release and make a Q&A thread like you did for the GSL, and take questions and then post all the answers as a DDI article and in the forums here then people will be able to get the nuts and bolts.

I am pretty sure the Q part is covered and you already know what A's people want. So wouldn't be that hard after you convince Chris to DM for you again with the full version of 4th rather than playtest version. :P

Thanks for stopping by and explaining some things to help relax people a bit.

Currently subscription to DDI is free right now. Later when EVERYTHING is ready, Chris said, the subscription portion will start but not before. So just sign into DDI with your forums informaiton as usual and you will be able to use everything for fre until all components are ready and fully operational.

Expect the Compendium of rules elements to be first as it should be easiest to complete before Dragon and Dungeon add too much to it.

But in all seriousness, I do like the fact that they missed the deadline, and are making sure to have it finished before throwing it out there, and fixing as they go.. It makes people mad because they missed another one, but to me, it's the better option.

I couldn't agree more. Please show some maturity guys. You'd complain either way. If all the tools had been released on time but were imperfect, it would have been the same.

I'd rather wait for some time and use a better product. I couldn't wait like most of you to get my hands on the online content, and I was disappointed not to see much today.

But that's life. People usually have trouble keeping on schedule. Regarding computer software, which I use every day in my job, my opinion is that is better to wait a while for a more complete and debugged version.

I'm not impressed by the online content. I want to back to the days of HARDCOPY Dungeon and Dragon magazines. Just because one can do something electronically, doesn't mean one should.

And WotC already knows this, or the 4th ed books would have been sold online as pdf files only.

My preferance is to have my steak cooked right, and delivered WARM. Not undercooked and delivered on time, not cooked right and delivered a half hour late so it's cold.

Every single release.. every single one has been pushed back.

We keep getting regurgitated screen shots of the same DDXP screenies, Not one fraking thing is new.. except the release dates which are now totally non existant. Just, whenever they feel like it. Like I said in another post.

These tools were supposto be released with the launch of 4th ed. I sold my game group and three other people on the fact that the online tools would benifit us all, and do so on the day of release. Lo and behold the power of WotC. I shoulda known better.

That way, they could have listened to this kind of stuff a long time ago?

Admittedly, it would have been nice to hear more details, but we did know that the product release was evolving, and that it would be rolled out over a series of weeks/months due to not being able to complete the product on time. I mean, what more should we get?

I watched the Gamer Zero video about release day. The only thing WoTC said would be up for DDI on release day was 3 dungeon articals and 2 dragon articals. Thats exactly what we got.

In the interview they said more dragon and dungeon content would roll out through out the month, and the other tools would be released as soon as the bugs where worked out.

Its the second part that scares me. Too many companies try to make their product perfect. It does'nt need to be perfect, just stable. Chances are they will never get it perfect and if that happens and it takes too long for them to realize that WoTC might just write it all off as a failure and drop it all together.

Some one on these boards suggested it and I agree. Put the tools in open beta. Let US have something to play with and HELP you guys find those bugs.

LOL, this is so true. Wizards of the Coast has amply demonstrated that they are unable to deploy anything via digital means with any kind of timeliness or efficiency. When it comes to online content, fan sites can usually surpass what WotC can manage.

Yet, we keep buying their stuff, so they can keep blundering through what should be simple things.

I only have one issue with the whole online tools not being released as the same time as the books. Shall we roll back to 3rd ed and the character creator disk they had with the books and the promiss of a full version that never came to be. My only concern at this point is that this softwere they are still "working the bugs out of" may actuly never be realsed now as per the previous editions atempt at it.

As for the books. Like what i see so far lets hope WotC dosent blow it with the online now.

The real problem is quite simple. They said 'will be ready' not 'we hope to have ready'. If you make a promise, especially to the educated and sarcastic D&D crowd, they will hold you to it. I looked forward to this just like I looked forward to the E-Tools released with v3.0...which went POOF and died. I don't expect miracles from anyone. I do expect a company that is part of a company like HASBRO to be polished, professional and sensible. That doesn't seem to be the case. Your website could at least clearly state the current status instead of letting people think it is ready. You go to the Gleemax site, it tells you it has no role playing game information and is 'clunky' and in an alpha stage. There is no details on how, when or how much with regards to DDI subscription on the site main page. Not all of the D&D players will bother to sort through forums to find such information.

Simply updating some information on the main pages of the web site to enlighten the customer base would possibly help ease the frustration. The subscribe now link for DDI takes you to a colorful sales pitch but has no actual information about subscribing in any way.

Please, try to recoup some dignity as a company and make an effort to at least appear to care about your customers. We really would appreciate it.
