I am not sure if this was brought up recently, but I figured I could ask anyhow. I am a 3.5 Player/DM...reluctant to learn 4e...but I was wondering if DDI is worthwhile for me to pay for. Is there still material that I could use for 3.5e, or is it all 4e material, and should I put getting it until I learn 4e.

Speaking as a DDI fanboi - no, I wouldn't get a subscription if I wasn't going to run 4E. There's plenty of fluff (for the new implied setting) in Dragon Magazine, but... nope.

its a better idea to run a few 4e games before you get DDI.

Dungeons and Dragons Insider is a service aimed wholly at 4th Edition support. As with the rest of the D&D line, WotC no longer supports older editions.

I'd welcome you to give 4E a try first (might I suggest trying to find an RPGA game in your area?) because the material in DDI is all supplemental to 4E as a whole. While it might be an interesting read, much of it won't make sense in a 3.x context.

After you've played a game or two you can decide if you want to play 3, 4, or both, and that will help you make a better decision on DDI.

In the meantime, if you want to sample DDI, I'd suggest downloading Dragon issues 364, 365, and 366 (which are still free to all) as well as Dungeon 155, 156, and 157 (all available here: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/4mag/archive).

If you do decide to check out an RPGA game, and want to make a character, the DDI Character Builder can be downloaded in a trial mode that will let you make characters up to level 3. Living Forgotten Realms requires you to start at level 1, so this should make participation a lot easier (you'll still want to buy/borrow a copy of the 4E PHB of course to really understand what you're doing). You can get the Character Builder Demo here: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/insider/characterbuilder
