DDI Subscription: What is the value? What will D&DNext bring?

I had been an Annual Subscriber for a few years, but shortly after Steve Winter was let go I cancelled my autorenewal to DDI. A couple days after that, D&DNext was announced. I hoped that some increased DDI content related to D&DNext would be forthcoming, but it appears that the playtest will be so open that one of the original DDI selling points (exclusive playtests and beta content) won't be carried over from 4e to 5e anytime soon. Dragon and Dungeon don't seem to offer much to me anymore, and I seldom use the online tools. My subscription lapsed a few days ago. So far, it doesn't appear that I have missed much.

For the D&D enthusiast who isn't actively playing 4e, what is the value of DDI? What are the plans for D&DNext content for DDI? I'm willing to re-up sometime, but if there does not appear to be any sense of actually being an "Insider", then I see no reason to pay for stuff that will have little immediate use for me or will be freely disseminated as part of an open playtest.
