| #1DaBugbearJul 13, 2010 20:11:48 | I hope this is the right place to suggest something.. Keeping in mind that I know little to nothing of what I type, how difficult would it be for WotC to put an option in the DDI Character Builder that allows you to ignore errata, similar to how you can allow or disallow books that are released? I know that some of the errata fixes are major and important (Stealth fix) but some of them (Magic Missle, most recently) really don't have the same feel. I know that our group could just keep playing the same way, but it would be nice to have your character sheet and power cards all line up with how you are running things. |

Yeah, but it WOULD be nice to be able to check a single box to ignore errata to a given power, if one is so inclined. Or to ignore an entire given update's worth if one so wished. I suspect it wouldn't be a small chore, though. |

There is no need for them to put in an option to ignore the Updates to the rules. Says you. There's no need for them to issue errata either. I'd venture to guess at least half the people playing 4E are completely unaware there even is errata for the edition. I know in my group of 6, I'm the only person who even knows if errata has been issued. No one else in my group cares a lick. There is an audience that desires an "off" switch for errata in the tools. Whether you personally see a need for that is irrelevant. This same thread idea has appeared on ENWorld and Twitter of late that I've seen, so there are people who want it. I'll add my name to the list here of people who want an off switch. I'd most like the ability to keep the original 4E Magic Missile. |

However, this would be a definitely non-trivial task to do (from my non-programming mindset), and there would also have to be additional safeguards to ensure that any characters built with the Errata turned off would be clearly marked as such so as to make them unuseable in RPGA events. |

In all honesty, I don't expect that this functionality will ever be included. As a programmer I can say with confidence that this is something that would have had to have been anticipated and included from the start. By now, that old data is cycled out, replaced by the erratted information. While I would like to see an option to stop errata from creeping in, I'd much rather the man-hours of programming time were invested in making new tools. If they can do both, great. However, I'd rather see more useful items in my toolbox if I have to choose between the two. |
