I finished reading it and immediately went back and read it again. It's that good. As I said in another thread, this article is the perfect marriage of fluff and crunch. The background story is fantastic and the monster design is truly wicked. Absolutely worth the wait. Thanks!

Definitely a strong example of what we should be seeing from these magazines.

The good news: it was a great article. WotC really splurged, too: two pieces of art instead of only one.

The bad news: after this we're back to our usual diet of one adventure and a couple of decent articles, the sum total of content for the e-turd versions of Dungeon and Dragon.

Wow - just read this article, AWESOME!  Mr Schwalb took a demon lord that, in previous editions,  always seemed kind of nonsensical and even silly (to me; others might disagree) and not only gave him a reason for existing in the first place, but an adventure hook that isn't necessarily killing him (ie, learning the identities of the obyrith lords) and an agenda all his own that (because he can seize lesser jellies) gives him a reason for personally interfering at every level of the campaign.

Wow. Just, wow.

Also, the art was freaking great.  Best argument for Dungeon Tiles-based maps ever.
