| #1rironinFeb 19, 2009 22:40:52 | Hi, I'm new to 4th edition, and have just purchased Thunderspire Labyrinth with the intention of making it the first adventure I run for my group. I use a digital projector and the RPTools Maptools program to display the battle grid. I have yet to upgrade Maptools to its latest edition (which I believe supports all the 4th ed changes and then some). Previous to trying out 4th edition, I was running Paizo's Pathfinder Adventure Path, and I think they spoiled me with their free pdfs and untagged maps. Does DDI provide DMs with digital versions of the maps? How would one go about running Thunderspire Labyrinth in DDI using the online tools? I'm leaning toward sticking with Maptools and the workflow I know rather than jumping into DDI, but I'm not looking forward to scanning in all the maps by hand from the printed adventure and then photoshopping out all the annoying monster tokens. Any help on where I might (legally) find digital versions of this material would be very helpful. Thanks! |

As a point of clarification, MapTool doesn't support any game system - it has no built-in rules or rule arbitration; the only things it does by default are handle basic rolling in the chat window, and maps and tokens. It supports the creation of macros that handle pretty much any element of any game system you want, but you have to either create your own macros, or use a campaign that somebody else created, in order to have MapTool do any rules arbitration. |

Correct Mock. I neglected to mention that. Maptool is a great game table, but knows and cares nothing of any gaming system by default. You have to heavily customize it to play the game of your choice, but once it is set, it's an awesome tool when combined with a voice chat program. |

I run Scales of War currently using MapTool and Ventrilo. It is the answer. |

| #8rironinFeb 26, 2009 20:12:04 | Oh, I'm completely down with MapTools and have used it extensively. I just hadn't used it since they implemented the 4th ed style diagonal measurements and drawing blasts, bursts and the like. Although I would like to use the original maps, I can't deny that the work that's already been done to create the campaign file for MapTools is too awesome not to use, so I'm pretty much all set. Thanks! |

I didn't think about those things (I never used it before that stuff existed). |
