For Digital Tools you need
A) A computer than can run Windows XP or Vista or 7 ! to simply If you can manage a MAC and run windows via a virtualisation so be it.
Tips : If you dont have a Laptop , a huge computer under the table can be confortable for DM feets ... but i love better my wireless mouse/keyboard and a flatscreen with a 30 feets DVI Extension
.B) I strongly suggest subscribe to dungeon dragon insider for only 2 tools they are :
Character builder (DDICB)
Adventure tool for monster builder (DDIMB)
Before to spend any money try the demo first
.C) Map generator
D) Encouter generator and with DDIMB you can remake a monster at your flavor i.e upgrade his level attack etc, everything is caculate for xp etc..
E) Tresure generator well isnt the best generatore i Saw. i.e generator from 2nd editon with Core Rules was more flexible. But if you want to add items and stuff . Open DDICB and go sneek into Shop Section.
F) ONLINE PC SHEET(www.iplay4e.com) ! woot best for E-****n or if you out of town and forgot to bring your Character sheets! That tools use Character builder char sheet .dnd4e files and make your toon online in few click. There is a example of sheet my proud ranger
G) NEW- I just found that today, I was wondering how to export Maps / encouter / and Caracter from Web or DDI program without need to print them.
Google "Bullzip PDF Printer" That will install a virtual printer than will Create a .PDF instead waste papper/ink for each monster.
H) TO keep tracking monsters ability hps etc. Excel from msoffice or Calc from openoffice is a nice tool.

I mean in digital form. Form-fillable sheets are not bad, but still clunky. I am looking for a mostly automated thing, where I can hit a few buttons and now I'm dazed and have 8 less hp. Where I can click on any of my powers and it tells me what they do exactly (input given prior).
I am thinking about using my Laptop on gamenight, but I am not sure if it's a good idea...
So kind of like playing online only in the same room. Makes sense (it really does; I generally won't group with people in MMOs unless they are in the same room 'cause it makes coordination so much easier). But I don't know of anything like that.

You'll need a google account and a CB file to upload.
Great for the player but even sweeter for the DM as you can upload your entire party as a campaign and view a capsule summary of all characters at once.
As far as combat tracking, I've been trying out: VCC (www.exnebula.org/vcc) A bit a of a learning curve -- but pretty powerful and does what I need to track combats (need to enter in encounters ahead of time to get good mileage out of it)
Both of these tools are far, far better if you have a DDI account as they tie in to it nicely.

I've tried several different pdf printers but CutePDF is by far my favorite. No watermarks and no limitations on a tiny little program that gets the job done with ease. My wife actually referred it to me. I used to use something else but it was so long ago that I can't remember what it was.
It might be a bit rough around the edges yet, but it is often updated based on suggestions from users (atleast twice a month)

Oooh. Squishy. All but one of the D&D4e GMs in our group use laptops so I'll point them to this. And now I'm inspired to write something similar in Java for HackMaster Basic.
I generaly just use Masterplan and the CB for whatever I need.
Have you used Masterplan to project to the players the map and other encounter information? If so, how do you do that? It isn't at all clear how that works...
