Hey everyone,

I'm having a hard time understanding the way Character Builder is adding up dmg, see if you can help me out here:

I have a lvl 12 Wizard with the 'Dual Implement Spellcaster' feat.

I equiped him with 2 wands a 'Wand of Swarming Force +4' and a 'Flame Wand +4'

With those 2 implements, his Scorching Burst power does 1d6 +16 dmg.

The problem is when I try to equip a different wand in place of the Flame Wand +4. For example, I replaced that wand with a 'Precise Wand of Color Spray +4' and my dmg for scorching burst dropped to 1d6 +10. Where did the 6 dmg go? The flame wand provides +2 to dmg rolls with attacks that have the fire keyword, so it seems like I should be doing 1d6 + 14, how is character builder giving me a 10?

Please let me know if you require any more information from me. Thanks in advance for your help, I've been trying to run the numbers on my own and I just don't understand how character builder came up with that dmg.

Thanks!

The way I understand it dmg should be based on:

Ability modifier = + 6 (from Int score 23)

+

Enhancement bonus from a +4 wand = +4

+

Enhancement bonus from another +4 wand (cuz of dual implement feat) = +4

=

14

Go under 'build', then 'powers', then click on the power in question; the right-hand sidebar will tell you how the CB does its computations.

I tried that. The power dmg is always correct when I look at it under build. Problem I am having is on the printable character sheet. Specifically the first page where I can have my basic attacks in the dmg workspace.

In the Build section:

Breakdown of your dmg using 'Wand of Swarming Force +4' (wand in main hand):

+6 Intelligence modifier
+4 enhancement bonus
+4 off-hand enhancement bonus

So, my dmg SHOULD be +14, I don't understand why I am getting a +10 on the character sheet.

when you do it on the char sheet and specify a third unequipped wand it is probably assuming a removal of both wands since it does not know which one to remove, and not assuming the wand in your main hand.

Ahhhh, good call sjmcc13! I had to open up the dmg workspace and tell it which wands to use for the dmg calculations. It was basing my dmg on my main hand wand and no wand, since I had unequipped my original off-hand.

Working properly now.
