That is sell about 10 years up front, earn time value of money for the payment, with some hope that some will not use the full ten years. For an internet application the price might be lower only because it is hard to believe that 10 years out Game Table, et. el. will even exist. |
| #4meadAug 11, 2008 15:39:54 | They might get some bites on that at $150-250, LotRO style, but damn.. $1000? Or, you know (cos there's always some asshat that points this out), I could get a "lifetime subscription" to something like Fantasy Grounds for about 3% of that. |

Under current plans they want over 100.00 per year and I find it hard to believe they would revisit the issue to offer lifetime price at a little more then one year (two at best). *shrugs* |

Same with Hellgate London. WWII Online had big-money long-term subs like that, but it only worked there because 1) it was a smaller, but much more loyal fanbase, and 2) they had already had their game out for 2 years and shown a reliability and stability toward patches and support. |
| #7briskbabyAug 11, 2008 16:54:23 | That's what LOTRO did. 14 months up front was their lifetime price. Same with Hellgate London. I was thinking similar to LOTRO. The price was about the same as 14 months of regular service if you signed up within the first 3 months of the game release. In this case, these people could even serve as the ever-elusive beta testers for the products. ![]() |

You need to remember that it extends the natural curve of the price reduction per pay period line, if you fit a quadratic to the three price points you get a max value they'd ever charge at about 160 dollars (then it starts dropping since this was a poor curve choice) however using better fits like logarithmic(e) gives a max reasonable value of around 200, and if you fit a reverse exponential you end up with around 175, so the price window of 200-250 seems about right for a lifetime subscription. |
| #9gargoyle117Aug 11, 2008 17:16:31 | While I am some what amiable to a lifetime subscription, I have one significant question to ask. A lifetime subscription to what? With the way Wizards has been rolling out tools, you may have to buy that subscription before they publish all the tools. By the time they get everything out, the 3 month window, that most games use, will likely be gone ages ago. You should also remember that they plan to charge for V-Minis. There is still going to be a possibly substantial cost associated with continued use of the program. |
| #10rolyawAug 12, 2008 11:19:47 | You really think it D&Di will be around and supported by WoTC in 3-5 years? Wizard's track record should scare you off! |
| #11hdtvdinnerAug 12, 2008 12:05:32 | One thing I've noticed with the pricing scheme for mmo's are either pay x amount for the game itself, and y amount per month you want to play. The second method is get the game at no charge and play at no charge but have a micro transaction system for in game items to support the cost of doing business. The thing that kind has my alarms going off is the monthly fee's and micro transactions. I really feel it should be one or the other. I could really get behind a one-time lifetime membership of about $100-$150, and still not feel ripped off purchasing mini's packs and such, It also makes it more enticing to maybe buy a few lifetime passes as gifts to my old group members that live too far away to game face to face. |
