| #1LordDarkonJan 08, 2015 10:32:24 | I've been considering refreshing my subscription (mostly just for the character builder), but all of the conversations in this forum seem to suggest that the tools are partly-operational at best (and are unlikely to continue for much longer). Is it worth it to invest in another subscription? |
| #2SkedrixJan 08, 2015 12:40:39 | While I don't doubt that certain people have had difficulties with the 4E tools as of late, I'd like to say that the tools have been working properly and consistently in my case. Now, I don't know if it's a browser/OS/time-of-day issue or what, but I have not noticed any sorts of changes between now and pre-5E beta.
That being said, I don't know what camp you'll fall in. You may have my experience (no problems whatsoever at any time whenever you log in), or you may have the experience of others (log-in issues, things simply not working). Just keep in mind that there is a silent faction out there that is not having problems with the 4E tools.
As for whether it's worth it to invest in another subscription, it was stated by official sources that the tools for 4E will be available as long as there are enough subscribers. I would like for you to subcribe. It would put me one more user further away from the cancellation of a service I am actively using. However, what value is there in it for you? I mean that question with all sincerity and honesty. You may find that the 4E tools are as indispensible as I do, or perhaps you may find that you don't use them very often, and rather refer to the books for most things. That's a question only you can answer. It seems you've been a D&DI subscriber before. Did you find it a valuable service? Do you think you can get more out of all the content they have already released for 4E? Are you expecting more 4E content? (It's highly unlikely there will be any, even with a D&DI subscription, so you'll probably be disappointed there.)
TL;DR: Ultimately, it's up to you, but there may not be as many problems with the tools as the forums may have you believe. |
| #3hugodlrJan 18, 2015 18:34:07 | I had trouble for about two weeks gettig in, but once I did an account migration the issues mostly stopped (there are hiccups every now and then). For getting acess to almost all the available 4e mateiral in charater creation the Creator is invaluable. I play once a month but DM students at my school, and maintaining characters for them (they're middle school and only one of thier parents is willing to pay for an account so their kid can play a game!) would be a bit hard (I run 2 games with 6 kids each, so each time they level that's 12 toons to update). I downloaded every pdf of Dragon and Dungeon so that's archived on my laptop, but otherwise, as long as you don't have issues with login attempts, the tools are still working. No official word excpt vague promises of "they'll stay up as long as people are using them," though, so our mileage may vary.
There won't be any more 4e content at all, though, and I think the last few issues of Dargon weren't included in the last update.
Blessings & Peace, Hugo |

Accound migration I had to do just now askin after a DCI number it told me it owuld give me, then never did. As I'm able to post, hopefullt I'm still able to properly log in and I didn't just eat my tools access just for the sake of posting. |

| #6LithlJul 06, 2015 4:18:27 | The Silverlight tools (such as the Character Builder) do not work by default in Chrome any more (since April 2015), and will cease to function in Chrome come September 2015. See this thread for more information.
This change is due to Google closing off potential security holes in Chrome, not because any 4e tools are being changed. |
