Reading the thread regarding running D&Di on Mac, it occurred to me that the D&Di programs might by Vista exclusive. Can anyone who uses D&Di on XP confirm for me that it still works properly?

EDIT: Also, if you choose to unsubscribe, do you keep the articles you got when you were subscribed?

I can.

I have Windows XP Pro SP3, and it works fine.

As for access, no, once you no longer have an active subscription to DDI, you no longer have access to the DDI content. If you wish to continue to have access to it after you unsubscribe, you need to download it.

Yes you keep what you down load.
You will it appears lose access to online material you paid for at this current state of development. Not sure it will get better, however I believe it is posible to to program in access for replacement data in system for content you paid for.

There has been indications in the past that content you have paid for, mostly the ezines, lost can be replaced by cust serv. The plan however could have shifted a bit.

Vista clearly not required.

in order to run the ddi tools you need a .net 3.5 compatible OS. which currently is only windows xp, vista, 7 from microsoft

given some time, there might be a compatible version for macosx and linux, basically it all depends on how well someone not in any way associated to WOTC progresses with their plans: Project Mono

They provide an alternative framework for .net version X, whereas X is currently somewhere between 2 and 3.5

with any older windows you're probably out of luck for the long term, but with macosx and linux you'll still be able to use it one day - whether it will be this year or later, is something that only time will tell. the last plans were to support most of 3.5 by september... and they usually keep their schedules "a bit" better than WOTC.

as for the magazines, wotc just has no real choice but to offer CS as a means to reget your paid for content. you paid for online content, and online access to it, even if only for just a month or two. sure, wotc could go in front of a court against you and would probably even win, but it's just not worth the hassle. i hope they'll be getting a really good subscription system running by the end of the next year.
