As a DM, one of the nice things with the old CB was that I can have all my players email me their character file so that I have all there information to look at as I am planning my game.

Will the new CB have any type of ability to allow me to look at my players character sheet?

According to the FAQ, not initially.  THEORETICALLY they'll add it later.  Just like they delivered on all their DDI promises.  ;)

So basically, I'm paying a sub to get less functionality than I had before, and was barely able to justify that sub based on the lack of follow through with bringing out the tools that would enable remote play without resorting to buying other products.

K thx bye!

It was all those "promised features" that got me to pay for a year of DDi, and so far I have barely gotten a character builder (CB) worth using for the LFR games I am the Organizer for.

From what I can see of the email about the new CB there will be little to no reason for me to continue to support the D&D line at my FLGS.
I had been using the CB that was downloaded to a laptop to get brand new players to make characters, since there was no need for internet access for them to do so right there while I was getting other players checked-in & setup to play at their respective tables.  Now I have to ask the store owner to allow random people behind the counter to use his business PC with internet access, or to turn his store into a target for wireless "pirates" who want to freeload on his internet, just so we can have the CB available for brand new players.

I personally am not willing to ask him to take such risks with how little Wizards has been doing for the stores, their organizers, and/or the DMs who have been keeping the D&D product line alive.

**BOTTOM LINE**
I will not renew my DDi when the year is up & highly recommend everyone else to stop paying too much for far too little (I.E. the lack of regular updates to the current features let alone the addition of features already promised months/years past) from this franchise.

I even keep of copy of them on my CB, in case anyone forgot their 'Char-Sheet (I'm looking at you, Aline ).

But I guess I already know when we'll be able to do that.

Wait for it...

!Soon!

Sorry for being unhelpful, but the whole online CB-tool is pretty stupid idea...

Basically. Yes. Superb summary.
