Unearthed Arcana: Using Ships in Your Campaign
By Lori Andeson

The ocean is filled with incredible beauty, great dangers, exotic creatures, and thrilling adventure. But adventure does not come without peril, and a good ship can make or break the journey.

Talk about this article here.

I think it looks very good, but the Flag of Resistance is way too good on a number of levels, both from a ship combat standpoint and PC standpoint.

Most ship combats are going to be minions vs minions - Flag of Resistance means the minions can't actually kill the other minions.

And from a PC PoV, this is giving the benefit of Moment of Glory without a need to sustain. That's really quite amazing for a level 6 item if the PCs plan to be on the boat most of the time.

I loved the example ship rundown, and I was particularly excited for the guidlines for creating custom ships but....yeah where did that go? X ship type costs Y gold and can carry Z amount of cargo is so totally not enough information to go by.

Agreed, that cover art is fantastic!

Very cool article by a person I am very honored to know. Lori is a fantastic author/collaborator for Living Forgotten Realms, super fun as a DM and player, and a really nice person. She is also married to Dan Anderson (insane author/admin for LFR), and it makes me so glad to see the awesome work they do get recognition. More from the Andersons, please!
