| #1tosscobobbleJul 21, 2008 19:44:33 | I only have one question: What magazines are out there that could replace Dragon? I miss getting my monthly copy... Is there another I can gain a subscription to to fill the void? |
| #2taurrenJul 21, 2008 19:57:05 | Kobold Quaterly and Dragon Roots are the 2 that come to mind. But neither is supporting 4E. If you're an Iron Kingdoms fan, you can also check out No Quarter. The mechanics in that mag is more geared towards Warmachine and Hordes, but the fluff is outstanding. |

| #4john_paul_stoddardJul 22, 2008 18:46:34 | If you enjoyed Dragon, published by Paizo then ... Except Pathfinder isn't a replacement for either Magazine. Its Not even a Magazine..Its a Suppliment |
| #5araelethe_dupJul 22, 2008 20:55:38 | I would hesitate to call it a supplement. It is a comprehensive adventure path with lots of fluff and mechanics for character development and advancement, creature ecologies, fiction, and fine illustrations and design from folks like Wayne Reynolds and Sean K. Reynolds (both of whom contributed to Dragon and Dungeon over the years). And wouldn't you consider Dragon a supplement? Dungeon, as well? It's not a magazine in the sense of a fanzine ... in that you won't find the sort of gamer's news and product placement that you found in Dragon. Or comics, for that matter. However, in the absence of a monthly mag like Dragon or Dungeon, it's nice to get in the mail. I've been getting it since the cancellation of Dragon and it's a welcome drop through the mailslot. |

As it stands, there is no replacement in print form. If you are saying that the work of those writers, designers, and artists that made Dragon and Dungeon, including cosmologies, ecologies, classes, adventures, paths, monsters, items, and fiction, and who now create Pathfinder, is "sub-par" and "drivel," then there is no point in discussing this in the face of such ignorance and belligerence. That's right. Ignorance. Goodbye thread. [Unsubscribe]. |

As it stands, there is no replacement in print form. So when was Dragon and Dungeon good? If I recall correctly, Dragon and Dungeon Magazine were published by Paizo with WotC renting them the rights for a few years. My only complaint with the magazines in the past was the number of advertisements and that had been a problem with TSR. Back to the original poster, right now, there is no 4E equivalent to Dragon or Dungeon yet hitting the newstands. Most likely, the replacement for the printed copies will be hitting CTRL+P in your favorite .pdf reader. |

| #13theoinodaemonJul 23, 2008 12:41:53 | I only have one question: What magazines are out there that could replace Dragon? I miss getting my monthly copy... Is there another I can gain a subscription to to fill the void? Kobold Quarterly and DragonRoots aren't going to support 4E (or at the very least it appears that way at this time). Wizards pretty much assured that when they made the GSL as draconian as they did. I would encourage you to try Kobold Quarterly though, its quite good and will support a variety of systems. I haven't looked at Dragon roots yet, but will in the future. As it stands there isn't a pen and paper replacement for Dragon. Its a shame really, and something I'll probably never forgive WotC for. |
| #14john_paul_stoddardJul 23, 2008 13:08:40 | KObold Quarterly is available in PDF and Print Formats http://paizo.com/store/magazines/koboldQuarterly and Dragon Roots is available in PDF and Print Versions also http://www.dragonroots.net/index.htm Sadly they are not Monthly Magazines like the Dungeon and Dragon Magazines were. |
| #15alynnalizzaJul 23, 2008 13:15:17 | Yeah Dragon Roots is not monthly yet, but I am fairly confident the plan is to go monthly ![]() It's a fairly good read, in either PDF or Print. (Yes I should declare I have ties to DR, so I am biased.) |
| #16theoinodaemonJul 23, 2008 13:24:04 | I think the plan is to go monthly for both magazines. I seem to remember Wolfgang talking about trying to go bi-month a little while ago. |
