| #2KentinalSep 18, 2008 23:16:41 | Has WotC announced when they're starting to charge for Dungeon/Dragon magazine? If so, what are the costs associated with it? Yes target date set for Oct.1st 2008 for web content, upfront pay of either one month, three months or a year effect monthly costs. We have also been told that actual payment software interface might lag some that some Oct. material will remain free. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/4news/20080917 |
| #3darth_azalinSep 18, 2008 23:24:40 | So basically that is the price for the D&DI. We pay FULL price and only receive the little we do? Or are they actually have the gaul to raise the price even higher when they complete everything they want to do? I would have to say that the very little scraps that are handed out each month right now is not even worth $7.95 so I guess I will look at other places to get my Dragon Mag info. |
| #4WolfStar76Sep 19, 2008 6:30:10 | So basically that is the price for the D&DI. Full price is $15 a month (as long as we're quoting the monthly prices and disregarding the multi-month discounts). So it's half-price at most. If we figure in multi-month discounts it can be as low as $5/month. (vs $10/month for the full package). That may or may not adjust it's value to you, but lets at least compare apples-to-apples. |
| #5xhazerdusxSep 19, 2008 8:17:12 | Well, are they going to have piecemeal subscriptions? I'd like Dragon and Dungeon, but I don't think I'd ever use anything else besides maybe Compendium. |
| #6ranadielSep 19, 2008 8:35:45 | Well, are they going to have piecemeal subscriptions? The three you mentioned(Dragon, Dungeon, and Compendium) are the components of the web content package(the price that they are going to start charging next month). |
| #7darth_azalinSep 19, 2008 12:28:10 | Full price is $15 a month (as long as we're quoting the monthly prices and disregarding the multi-month discounts). Ok you want to talk multi-month discounts.... I had NO problem giving Turbine $199 for a lifetime sub for LoTRO. People gave $199 for a lifetime sub of Hellgate: London which only lasted 8 months. My other MMOs I pay I only do a month by month since I see no reason to trust them to do anything more and then I didn't give money away. So what it comes down to is if I can't see the value of giving you $7.95 why on Earth would I give you more at that time? (pay for 3/6/12 months) |
| #8WolfStar76Sep 19, 2008 15:58:04 | Ok you want to talk multi-month discounts.... Well, now it's a debate of economic theory. If you're paying for a full year, one month at a time, you're giving the company more money than you need to. It's your choice. If lack of trust is worth an extra $5 or so a month to you (for most MMOs) that's your choice. Just so long as you know you're tossing out an extra $60/year when you don't need to. |
| #9john_paul_stoddardSep 19, 2008 21:47:49 | Here is how I am gonna handle the E-zine Content portion of DDI. Wait 1 year to see if they actually manage to Provide Quality Content on Time. If in a year they still available and measure up I will consider purchasing them, until then I will goto Hastings and flip through "Kobold Quarterly" and decide if I wanna spend $7.95 on single issues or Not. Now If WOTC decides to let people somehow view a digital copy of each issue before we purchase, then I will decide if I want to purchase each issue. Absolutely no unseen purchases for me. If everyone says that issues were great then I will buy them at a later date..............EBAY |

They dont have the features they promised put together and the parts they do have a weak at best. So pretty much they are asking me to pay for a chance to read updates on a game I love that I dont know when they are coming out. Im sorry to say but my loyalty to the company isnt strong enough to purchase them from here instead of just finding another source for the magazines at the end of the month after they are published.(IF they even get them out on time) |
