I'm trying to equip two orbs on my wizard. I have dual implement as a feat, and I'm level 22. Orbs claim to be off-hand items. So why is it that when I try to equip the orb in the off hand, it automatically jump to the main weapon slot, and overrides whatever was already there? It doesn't matter if my off-hand slot is empty, it just overrides whatever is in my main hand.

I tried a trick on the forums where you export the character, remove some offending tags, and import it back in, but it's still doing it. Any advice would be much appreciated!

EDIT: remade entire character. Huuuuuge pain, but it fixed it for some reason :\

Same problem as in This Thread about Rangers and This Thread about Implements. There's a full description of the problem/solution in my post in the Ranger thread but basically one of the Wizards' programmers forgot to clean up properly after himself and items that are removed from your inventory while equiped in your Off-Hand stay equipped even though they don't exist anymore. This blocks other things from being equipped in the Off-Hand.

Incidentally, that's why recreating the whole character worked. The "fresh" character had never had anything in his/her Off-Hand, so there wasn't a "ghost" blocking the spot.

Edit: Oh wait forgot to read this part "I tried a trick on the forums where you export the character, remove some offending tags, and import it back in, but it's still doing it. Any advice would be much appreciated!"

All I can think of is that you didn't remove the blocks properly or didn't remove all the blocks or forgot to save the file before reimporting it since there's literally nothing else that could be causing the problem (watch these words come back to bite me in the ass).

Huzzah, I found another solution:

If you deleted an item while it was in your off-hand (thus maybe causing this problem, as it did for me) slot, re-buy/Add the item, make sure it gets equipped again (it did by default as soon as I re-added it to my inventory) and then choose the "Empty" option for both your main & off hand item slots. It's what I did just now and it SEEMS to fix the problem.

All my damage math looks to be showin up right as well as my defense bonuses, so I'm feeling good about this. I suspect there's a gimmick/detail I'm missing...this was too simple a solution for all the doom I read about this buggery.

That actually makes sense, given the nature of the problem. Rebuying/adding it would set "count" to 1, equipping it would set "equip" to 1 (better known to computer scientists as TRUE), which would do nothing since "equip" is already 1, then unequiping sets "equip" to 0 (FALSE).

I'm still a fan of exporting the file and nuking the offending XML block, but that is just because I'm a huge nerd.
