| #2Plaguescarred1Mar 19, 2011 0:19:50 | Whoa good stuff in this article. I really liked it . It offers interesting Monsters and Attack Powers for Thralls. |
| #3MaximumHavocMar 19, 2011 10:11:41 | fantastic article. it would be great if these demon, devil, god personality article were produced once (or even more) per month. they do not contribute to feat/power/race/class bloat. p.s., the ooze scion is quite a minion. |
| #4MaximumHavocMar 19, 2011 10:30:47 | using a template in lieu of an actual aspect is quite inventive. (is there no limit to this man's genius?) |
| #5Janx_14Mar 19, 2011 11:09:28 | fantastic article. Stuff in Dungeon tends to not contribute to feat/power/race/class bloat. That said, didn't we used to get one of these demon/devil/god articles like once a month a year ago? |
| #6MarandahirMar 19, 2011 11:24:57 | No, we got an article of the like (and don't forget Court of the Stars for Archfey in that category too!) about once every two or three months in the past. This is long overdue, but seeing as Dungeon has had a dearth of content lately, I'm hoping this will be a step towards a return to regular magazine content. I mean, WotC have explained reorganisation of their magazine efforts the last couple months as the reason behind the dearth. But it still has been frustrating to subscribers. This makes the month work it (and the adventure tools update next week, and my heavy usage of the character builder and the compendium this month). |
| #7LordArchaonMar 19, 2011 12:45:02 | Now THIS is serious ****, THIS is a product I like paying for! I felt like I was reading something of 30 issues ago... |
| #8ranadielMar 20, 2011 5:37:52 | No, we got an article of the like (and don't forget Court of the Stars for Archfey in that category too!) about once every two or three months in the past. For the first year(if you include Domains of Dread, which I personally do) we got an article like this in 9 of the 12 issues. That being said, this is the level of quality that the magazine articles hsoul be held to. I don't expect to see anything likke this again for like 3 months now. |
| #9Madfox11Mar 21, 2011 3:32:16 | What is it with Dungeon articles comming a few weeks after I could have used it? First the duergar, and now Juiblex? ;) Otherwise great article. |
| #10duck_of_doomMar 21, 2011 7:49:02 | Hey a real article, really pleased with this one. Good to see Juiblex back (well you know what I mean). |
| #11mrmythMar 21, 2011 9:40:58 | That said, didn't we used to get one of these demon/devil/god articles like once a month a year ago? I don't think we ever got it at quite that pace, though it did seem somewhat reduced last year. But I wouldn't mind seeing such a rate - I'd say that these articles, and the Domains of Dread, have uniformly been among the best content in Dungeon since it went online. June 08: Yeenoghu, Demonomicon July 08: Beleth, Codex of Betrayal Nov 08: Baphomet, Demonomicon Dec 08: Mual-Tar, Lords of Chaos Feb 09: Bane, Deities and Demigods Mar 09: Alloces, Codex of Betrayal April 09: Prince of Frost, Court of Stars June 09: Turaglas, Demonomicon Nov 09: Codricuhn, Demonomicon Mar 10: Geryon, Codex of Betrayal May 10: Balcoth, Lords of Chaos Dec 10: The Bramble Queen, Court of Stars Mar 11: Juiblex, Demonomicon I mean, I look at this list, and almost every single of one of these articles are ones I have found interesting to read, have drawn inspiration from in coming up with adventures, and often have found a place to try and use background or mechanics in my campaign. |
| #12Magicstar1Mar 21, 2011 14:06:38 | What is it with Dungeon articles comming a few weeks after I could have used it? First the duergar, and now Juiblex? ;) Otherwise great article. Funny I thought exactly the same when I read it, I wonder why. Cool article though |
| #13AlphastreamMar 21, 2011 16:44:56 | The combination of content here was really fantastic and provided a lot of tools for DMs. You have some nice setting, some great ideas a DM could use for Epic adventures, great monsters, a template, and themes. That is pretty incredible. And, yeah, it is funny how useful this would have been for LFR just a short while ago! |
| #14Janx_14Mar 22, 2011 0:06:52 | I prefer these to the setting books. I feel they give a more concise, interesting block of knowledge without requiring you to read the whole book to understand. The amount of Dungeon article content I have used compared to "location" books is testament to that. I also enjoyed the Mithrendain article, and I dont mean the adventure (which was also awesome). |
| #15MarandahirMar 22, 2011 16:31:27 | I'd like to relist these types of articles with a few other big articles for the Core Setting – the Domains of Dread series and articles that are Backdrop–type articles (whether they were listed as Backdrop or not). My reasoning is that these hold equal weight as "big article features" in Dungeon (and earlier, in Dragon). If we include Domains of Dread and backdrops for the Core Setting, as well as the other Deities & Demigods articles (despite featuring organisations, rather than the actual deities), then this is what the "large article features for Points of Light" look like:
What I mean to achieve by making this list is to demonstrate that there has been one of these large articles almost every month since the start of 4e. 9 out of these 34 months did not have such a large article featuring some major aspect of the Core Setting. One month had two such articles, even. But of the 9 missing months, 6 of them were in 2010. The Magazine Content problem is something of early 2011, and many people have remarked that if this was 2010, we'd have are articles on time and we'd have far more articles. But based on this study, 2011 is actually getting off to a much better start than we had for most of 2010. |
| #16Madfox11Mar 23, 2011 4:22:29 | But based on this study, 2011 is actually getting off to a much better start than we had for most of 2010. Not really. It shows that it is too early to say. The number in 2011 is the same as in 2010 at the same time of the year. |
| #17mrmythMar 23, 2011 8:57:07 | I'd like to relist these types of articles with a few other big articles for the Core Setting – the Domains of Dread series and articles that are Backdrop–type articles (whether they were listed as Backdrop or not). My reasoning is that these hold equal weight as "big article features" in Dungeon (and earlier, in Dragon). Not sure I agree there, especially given how lackluster some of the Deities and Demigods were when focused on organizations over the deities themselves. Ignoring that just for the sake of padding out the list seems silly to me. Not to mention that if you do start looking at core Backdrop articles, you should probably include similar location articles for the settings, and if you are looking at Deities organizations, you should probably look at all other sorts of organizations... and pretty soon, this is a very different list entirely. That said, it is definitely true that 2010 did not have as many big articles. But keep in mind, that was a deliberate shift in the magazine - it switched to having many more articles (enough to have something every day of the week) at the cost of most of those articles being very short. Now, at the time, I was indeed hoping they would return to a more balanced collection of articles, which didn't happen. That said, it does look like they have begun again including more substantial articles... if, admittedly, the overall content has still diminished. 2011 doesn't seem to be off to a better start than 2010, of course, but it does look like they have begun including these articles again, which were noticeably absent from the magazine for half a year. |
