Save My Game: The Supporting Cast
by Stephen Radney-MacFarland

Arguably, the heart and soul of Dungeons & Dragons is combat: beating up monsters and taking their stuff. But unless you are playing a purely beer-and-pretzel game, this activity is best when framed within the context of a world, and while that world doesn’t need to be realistic (it is fantasy, after all), it is more enjoyable when the world interacts with the characters in meaningful and natural ways.

Great article! This is rock solid advice that every DM should read. I've always believed that the heart and soul of any RPG is the NPC's. Well built NPC's bring a campaign to life. This article gives DM's some great advice on how to make that happen. Thank you Stephen, keep up the good work.
