I have recently been thinking about writing a module for Dungeon & went to the trouble of downloading the writers guide & all the requisite info. Question is, what sort of modules are players interested in at the moment?

Under 3.5 it was much simpler, players seemed to be interested only in adventures that used demons, devils, plane shifting & perpetrating criminal acts. Under 4E though their seems to be a lot more of everything. so what sort of flavour are players currently interested in?

I'd love to see some epic intrigue adventures (political or religious) with the PCs caught in the middle.

I think WotC is not looking for retreads of old things. They've read all the modules, heck they've played in and written most of them themselves, so they don't need you for that.

What they want are new, fresh ideas that they haven't thought of. Your version of a 1st level kobold attack is not ground-breaking; a balanced encounter with sentinent badger Paladins at 1st level is, and will be more likely to get you published.

Yes, but there is also a difference between original & stupid.

I was more interested in finding out what style of play people are currently interested in: Urban, wilderness, dungeon, underwater?

I don't think the particular environment makes much difference (though you should always read through what's been published already to make sure you're not duplicating something recent). It's more important that the adventure be challenging, fun, interesting to play and run, and that it contains a variety of different kinds of encounters to challenge different sorts of groups and PCs - skill challenges, social encounters, tactical encounters, chases, time constraints, etc...
