Well not fully certain it does appear purchase of paper, plastic, metal as a physical product will not assure any free access to a virtual product. With that said it has been announced once you have one tile (purchased or part of intro) they can be cloned. That is you only need one to make as many as you desire. In the end of course we will know how it all comes together when all is released. |
| #3hellmuteJun 16, 2008 0:06:34 | The question is not if you can copy tiles you have, but newly created tiles. Will you have to buy them? Can you create your own tiles and omport them, or create them within the game without the whiteboard/blackboard drawing space. People use tiles maybe because they cannot draw, ergo drawing on the board doesn't help them. |

Did some searching and found this With the Dungeon Builder you can create maps that use a custom texture of your own choosing. So it could be some city street picture or wilderness area. It might not be clearest answer, but at launch or some future point you will in effect be able to have custom tiles, even if you just lay a grid over them. Or you import images the size of a tile *wink* All in all it should work based on the stated plan. |

The Dungeon builder only displays 2D tiles. If you use one of the tiles that can be seen in 3D in the digitable, you can use it totally freely in the dungeon builder. In the D&D Game Table, though, you will only see this 3D tile if you own it, else you will see it as a base dungeon floor tile (or whatever the base tile set ends up being for that tile). Not owning a 3D tile will not create "holes" in your maps. There are just some details that will not show up. |
| #6wotc_dmJun 17, 2008 1:51:31 | Sorry, I did read the question above too quickly ... There are no links between the physical tile product and the digital tiles. Like for the codes in books, we have abandoned any idea of linking physical product and its digital counterpart (at least for now). |

So for example, you can import a city map, a boat map, or whatever you want as a background for a full map level. Currently, the tile mechanism is not meant to allow users to upload customized tiles, or customize a tile. |
| #8hellmuteJun 17, 2008 2:49:29 | Currently, the tile mechanism is not meant to allow users to upload customized tiles, or customize a tile. I think this is the most important part. 2d "tiles" cannot be uploaded by people to use their own home-made tiles, so special 2d tiles, and 3d tiles/objects must be purchased or gotten through DDI. I knew there was no logner connection to physical prooduct, was jsut looking to see how to add physical product to the virtual table...IE scanning them in and uploading as you said was currently not in the plans. |
