Dungeon Forgotten Realms Adventures

So I've pretty much given up hope. In 5 months Forgotten Realms has gotten:

One adventure that *overlaps levels* with the single adventure published
One adventure seed that is basically a novel ad

I went in to this hoping that Dungeon would pick up where Scepter Tower left off. Oh well.

Now my question is: Do you think that Eberron will get the same treatment? I'm hoping that Wizards is just trying to bury FR and forget it ever happened, and that Eberron will have so much content it's silly. I mean, it already has Expeditionary Dispatches every month despite not existing yet.

I noticed the same thing and that concerns me. Wotc is doing 1 setting a year but what that ends up looking like is 1 'GM' setting book, 1 player setting book, 1-2 modules, 1-2 Dungeon adventures.
I don't know about anyone else but if I want to devote my players to a specific setting that I will pay for I want lots of material to fill it up with to make it feel like a setting.

Well... it would appear from the outside that they are indeed trying to kill FR... not sure they really are, but since their changes I have truly been less than thrilled, which also colors my opinion a bit.
Something I found interesting... in a local used book store - I found multiple copies of 4ed Core. So who knows, maybe they are trying to kill the whole game?

I am sure, much to your chagrin I might add, that 4th is going strong. The LFR play numbers are up and the number of new players/members is also up since 4th's release.

Unless something changes there will only ever be 1 setting specific module written. But all of the other modules are setting neutral in most respects and can be integrated into your campaign.

The setting materials give you a starting point. You as the GM are what takes that info and makes the world for your players. If you read the novels for the setting you can incorporate info from them into the campaign. Its up to you as the GM to create the world and its happenings for your players.

No chagrin, it was just an observation based on the amount of USED 4th ed PHB, DMG, and Monster Manuals in a used book store. Great if it truely is going strong. I am not too thrilled with the FR end, but that does not mean I gleefully await the demise of a game that I have enjoyed, myself, for 30 years.

There is no reasonable explanation for several sets of core books to show up in a store that sells books for half their cover price unless the population in the area of the store has found the material lacking.

Having said that, I am not totally opposed to some of the changes, I find the Monster Manual quite refreshing, though I have not bought any books as of yet.

So no, no chagrin felt. Just a bit of satisfaction... ;)

I find I can easily take most adventures and retool them for use in the Forgotten Realms without terrible issue. I would like to see some more specific FR adventures. I found it disappointing the dungeon adventure basically completely overlapped with the Scepter Tower of Spellgard though. That was a silly decision.

You should see how much second hand 3rd ed stuff is floating around. It's impossible to get rid of my old 3rd edition books :p. On the other hand, I know many people who would happily buy such 4th Ed books in a snap. Where do you live so I can direct them there?

Forgotten Realms end? That's bizarre. Forgotten Realms has never been more popular, and really, this has been the best edition of the game yet published. I've been DMing around 3x a week for the last couple of weeks, I think there are more D&D players, and more Forgotten Realms fans in my area than I ever had before.

Anyhow, if you are looking for adventures in the Realms, you should check out Living Forgotten Realms. We currently have around 30 adventures set in Faerun currently available. Many of these are run on a regular basis at public locations around the country. If you live in Maryland I'd be glad to let you know where to join a game.

I agree with the OP, I would love to see for Realms adventures. I know I can revamp the Dungeon adventures. But alas, they haven't published too many adventures for the lower Heroic levels (2-5) that don't involve the Scale of War AP (want to run that all together).

I would love to use the LFR Adventures, but again, I would have to join RPGA (not a major problem), but with me running at home and not wanting to post the outcomes, that would limit me. Unless of course they have changed some rules then I would look into that.

I wasn't terribly impressed by the couple of LFR adventures I was able to see. They're also pretty much all over the place, and unless I give the party an airship or something it wouldn't be feasable. All in all, they were very encapsulated, and while I understand why that's neccessary it doesn't make for very compelling adventures.

Also I have a stable group and don't actually want to have to deal with all that card stuff. It's very unclear what exactly I would be getting myself into if I signed up, but I'm pretty sure you can't just sign up, take the adventures, and run.

Don't mistake the preview adventures for LFR content. Those came out around launch just to demonstrate the combat system. The adventures are really good. If you missed out on Weekend in the Realms, it was set in the same locale as Haunted Halls of Eveningstar (from AD&D2e).

Well, anyway, i you haven't joined the RPGA you are missing out! You kinda can just sign up, take the adventures and run, all for free-- that's what they exist for. You sign up, usually you have to take the RPGA Herald test (which is easy), then you sanction an adventure (akin to checking it out of a library), then download it and run it. There's probably an RPGA group near you where you can just join and try them out anyhow. If nothing else, it's a great way to meet new players in your area.

The LFR adventures are indeed set all over the Realms, from Cormyr to Luruar, and stretching from the Gray Vale to the East Rift. Some of the "Core" adventures are set in places like Thesk, Lanten, ...and other places.

Scepter Tower of Spellgard is up in the Fallen Lands, Icy Spire was in the Gray Vail, as well as the Barrow of the Ogre King (in the new FR Players guide).

If IC travel is a concern, you could mainly concentrate your group to choosing adventures around Cormyr, Dragon Coast, Impilitur, Aglarond, and the Dalelands (basically just moving around the Sea of Fallen Stars). If you ever manage to get out to GenCon or DDXP, you can even bring your same characters (at whatever level they have reached) and jump right into games.

This is a change from previous years: LFR is practically tailor-made for just running at home.

If that is the case then I will have to get signed up and get the Herald level Dm certification. I know they are interesting adventures and I know my group would enjoy them. THanks for letting me know this

Couple of questions:
Would I still have to post outcomes to get more adventures to download?

Are they mostly dungeon crawls or do they include some other styles like mystery and investagations?

Thanks again

Sorry I phrased that poorly... when I said "the FR end" I meant that as that end of the business... i.e. the direction they took the Realms with the elimination of many FR deities some in bizarre and uncharacteristic ways. That was the "end" I meant in the latter post, not an "ending" of the setting, as I queried in a former post. So, once again, my apologies for the confusion.

So now if I have confused things more...

You do not have to post outcomes in order to stay active. In the check out process it expects you to return results, but it wont stop you from checking out future adventures.

Almost none of the LFR adventures are dungeon crawls. Most of them are "story style" adventures which will have scenes and encounters kind of linked together. Some of them might feature a section of encounters in dungeons-- East Rift 1-1 for example takes place in the Underdark, and there's a sewer complex in Dragon Coast 1-1.

Thank you for letting me know. I now need to find a FLGS to sign-up for.
