| #1dustin_000Jun 28, 2008 13:42:34 | I just took a look at the KotS side quest adventure and was a little surprised the maps were only simple thumbnails. Since these are PDFs, couldn't full-size printable maps be included? (possibly done to work well in gray scale for those of us without color printers) |
| #2KeithricJun 28, 2008 19:33:52 | I'll second that request. I'd love to be able to print up the maps directly as use for battle. That'd be a big thing that we'd have gained over the old print mag, even. |
| #3john_paul_stoddardJun 28, 2008 21:25:48 | Yea I agree But in the Mean while take a look at Dundjinni. It will do what you want..printout 1"=5' Scaled Maps. I use a projector to display maps. I quit printing maps. For the price of Adventures nowadays they should include scaled Maps. |
| #4AltivecJun 29, 2008 16:04:53 | Another vote yes. I came into this forum to post a topic basically identical to this one. ![]() This should be marketed as a strength of the Dungeon Magazine online. Lots of printables, such as battlemaps and more handouts that were just to expensive to include in a printed mag. |
| #5kyros_tachyusJun 29, 2008 16:59:35 | I'd like to see this done as well. Its really a shame it hasn't been done earlier. Please do THIS thing at least. We would ALL really appreciate it. |
| #6CailteJun 29, 2008 22:45:19 | Not only scaled but clear of monster info etc. So yes indeed. ![]() |
| #7james18Jul 01, 2008 7:54:27 | Wow this is exactly what i was looking for. I'm planning on getting my friends back into D&D and from looking over the adventures they are map intensive. I was looking at some of the maps and they are big, like 28 by 36. I wanted to know how we can get a print off of them. I guess we are stuck waiting. Bugs me a bit that they gave us a map that is useless. If you guys know of a way to use these maps, either by printing them off or some other way, please let me know. Best thing i can think of would be to use paper maybe. Use two sheets one for the terrain and another transparent one for the 5"ft checkers. It's kinda DIY though. |
| #8aberzanzoraxJul 01, 2008 10:29:03 | I'd definitely like maps to be: 1. Printable at page scale and full scale (so you could print a battlemat). 2. To have both DM maps and player maps. |
| #9ezurusJul 01, 2008 11:06:08 | I tried to post on this once, but the boards were suddenly down. So I e-mailed instead. Now I'll go ahead and add my vote for printable maps. I am going to be running H1 and plan on using the FR adaptation. So I would like to download and print all the maps that aren't included in the package. I also wouldn't mind the maps from de DMG dungeon. Really, having all of the maps printable would be nice. I suppose that most of the dungeon in H1 can be done with dungeon tiles, but some rooms, like the excavation site would be nice if I could print them. Anyways, just give us our maps! It's been done regularly in the past and it shouldn't be more than a few minutes of work for someone to get these maps in a usable format. (ie, high quality for printing 1 square=1" and without monster tokens and secret doors.) Thanks! |
| #10arkady_vJul 01, 2008 11:18:58 | PLEASE DO THIS! |
| #11aberzanzoraxJul 01, 2008 13:57:46 | I have PM'd Mudbunny (the VCL for Dungen and Dragon) about getting this thread stickied and/or brought to the attention of someone who might get something done in this regard. Keep expressing your desires for better maps and maybe we can make a difference here! -Aberzanzorax |
| #12jwtJul 01, 2008 14:49:26 | For that matter, can we do this for published adventures as well? I see this as an easy win for us and WOTC. It sure will go a long way to proving that WOTC is committed to going digital. |
| #13mudbunnyJul 02, 2008 8:56:57 | I will pass this on to the powers that be. |
| #14ArksornJul 02, 2008 14:50:43 | Adding my vote. Please do this. |
| #15rmcdougaJul 02, 2008 15:36:45 | This has my vote too. |
| #16henrixJul 03, 2008 9:02:28 | Count me in as yet another who was going to start a thread on this. Paizo gave us free pdfs with maps and artwork for the print magazines - surely WotC can do the same for the pdf mags! |
| #17klobbermeisterJul 03, 2008 13:02:46 | /signed |
| #18dmjboneJul 03, 2008 19:39:53 | Seriously. Pazio did a wonderful job with the PDFs they posted-With full player and DM maps...come on WOTC-get on the ball here. |
| #19shamurai7Jul 03, 2008 22:14:37 | i also agree... full page maps on the pdf magazines. it will be very useful for the dungeon master (me) and a full page map without dm info for the players. You guys went digital so stretch your legs a little bit and take advantage of skipping out on printing fees. cool printable player handouts in dungeon magazine would be awesome.... example printables for dungeon magazine: battle maps letters riddles scrolls treasure maps town layout maps racial alphabets (like in the phb) useful tables/charts tokens for marking things etc... |
| #20bob_loblawJul 03, 2008 22:49:04 | I was coming here also to make this suggestion. May I also suggest that, at the bottom of the page, there is a note that "Permission is granted to print this page for personal use" so that Kinkos and other companies don't get their panties in a bunch if we decide to use their services. I have had a difficult time in the past just printing character sheets even when that notice is printed on the page. |

My Local Kinko's and FedEx said I can't print them because Permission is not Granted |
| #22gizmoiscariotJul 04, 2008 20:47:05 | The reason I can think wotc does not want this is it probably would not take much effort to mass produce and have someone make physical copies and then sell them. I would not necessarily see this as being a major issue from my end but I can see a company going hm no. |
| #23john_paul_stoddardJul 04, 2008 21:45:57 | And Whats stopping people from doing that now? If someone's gonna do that, they'll do it now. Theres ways of doing that now? Scan and sell. |
| #24bob_loblawJul 05, 2008 1:33:41 | Bingo... I was told that even when it was printed on the page. I had to go above their heads, to their District Manager, and explain to them how I was not violating copyright laws. It took several days of discussion. I'm glad that I have a printer at home now so I don't have to put up with that BS. Not everyone has that luxury. I find it interesting that the library has no problem with me printing out or making copies of those pages, even without the allowance. |

Kinkos on the other hand makes a nice fat target for some corporate legal action. They're just covering their hind parts (like Wal-Mart's photo department if you try to make copies of something that was done in a pro studio). The guy behind the counter is just making sure that if something rolls down hill (that being something smelly and bad for continued employment) he wont be getting any on him. Best bet is to find a library (like yours) who is happy that someone is using their services or to get your hands on an old laser printer (always check the cost of replacement toner before buying though). |

Nor Can Kinko's be sued by WOTC or thier parent company when Permission has been granted. Nor would they be sued if you went out selling printed Copies. You are liable not them. Its just being plain stupid when something says permission is granted to copy/print for personal use and they refuse. Having Customers complain and go over the clerk's head to Management or Even High Management and then having them call you into the Office to tell you to do the job for the customer does not bode well for keeping your job either. |

TSR used to write at the bottom of the pages "Permission Granted to Copy This Page for Personal Use." It's very clear that I can make copies for personal use. There is no gray area here and Kinkos would not have been liable for anything. My local library is actually one of the best in the area. I am very grateful for their services. I don't think I should lock up their copier if I need to make a bunch of copies though. Kinkos is supposed to specialize in the services I needed. I am so glad I have a printer and scanner now with friends who chip in for paper and ink. |
| #28oldpepJul 09, 2008 10:03:10 | I'd like it, but with one (important to me) rule: don't fill with color. Make the maps like 1st edition maps, with objects (including water) designated by symbols or little drawings. The big problem with printing maps with even the pale yellow background is the cost of ink cartridges. I imagine they're not going to do either, though. There was nothing stopping them from doing it with the little adventures they've already had in the magazines. I think if they were going to put usable maps in, they would have done it already (since the e-tools weren't available). |
| #29forsaken1111Jul 09, 2008 12:14:09 | I'd love if they included this feature. It would also be nice if there were some way to get PDS versions of the maps from the print adventures such as H1/H2 online, so that I could play them with my friends online without painstakingly reproducing the maps for our online play. |
| #30Rhone1Jul 12, 2008 11:11:47 | Seriously, I can't believe that there are no maps and hand outs that can be printed. COME ON WIZARDS, LET'S GET THIS DONE! THERE SHOULD BE MAPS (BOTH FOR PLAYERS AND DM'S) AS WELL AS HAND OUTS WITH EVERY ADVENTURE! |
| #31countcrousherJul 13, 2008 3:37:55 | /signed Wizards, let's get this done |
| #32stonesonJul 13, 2008 12:40:56 | Add me to the list here. Some of the maps in Dungeon 155 would have been much easier to use if presented in full page, and full scale/printable would be even more useful. |
| #33BoredflakJul 13, 2008 12:49:22 | We use a digital battle map projection setup: http://www.penpaperpixel.org/tutorials/tabletopprojection/ The Dungeon Magazine online supplements provided by Paizo were perfect for this. For example: http://paizo.com/dungeonissues/139/DA139_Supplement_HR.pdf I drop the DM map in as a layer under the player map (in Potoshop). When I want to reveal info on the DM map to the players (such as a secret door or trap), I just erase that portion of the player map, revealing the DM map underneath. It works great, looks great, saves time, and makes the game more fun. I project and print player handouts (NPC illustrations and such). The maps in the current PDFs work okay for this, but really need to be higher resolution, and I have to spend time editing out DM info (it can be done, but it takes time and skill). WotC, please provide this valuable resource! |
| #34john_paul_stoddardJul 13, 2008 14:56:39 | We use a digital battle map projection setup: Yea I downloaded all the Suppliments Myself, because they are so handy for a Homebrew DM. Even without the Adventures they can be used anytime any place. Suppliments like this can be used without the constraints of an adventure. I also use a Projector, although I don't have Photoshop for a Masking Layer, and I project on a Wall not a Table, although I would love too. I have seen a Table projected from Underneath also. It does take time to cut and paste the Map Images into Paint to save as a JPG or BMP for Separation from the PDF. So that the Map can be projected while the Adventure is ran. All it would take is ???????????? Apparently not us Begging |
| #35thomassJul 14, 2008 8:43:48 | Seriously, I can't believe that there are no maps and hand outs that can be printed. Exactly my opinion! But not only maps, also other illustration should be available (just as it was at paizo!) |
| #36doppelgangerJul 14, 2008 9:43:30 | I would like Wizards to include a list of exactly which Dungeon Tiles were needed to make up the map sections in the Dungeon adventures. If I had a checklist of what pieces I needed, I wouldn't have to print the adventure because I would already have everything I needed in nice sturdy cardboard Dungeon Tiles. Without the checklist, I have to rummage through everything and hope I find all the pieces that I need. |
| #37BumamgarJul 14, 2008 10:01:17 | That assumes that all the maps for all adventures in Dungeon are representable via Dungeon Tiles. I would assert that this is not the case. We need hi-resolution maps without traps/monsters as well as handouts and images. In other words, I want the Dungeon "Web Enhancements" back. The ones Pazio used to publish are a perfect example of what we need. |
| #38OnysabletJul 14, 2008 14:23:40 | /bump |
| #39MrHotterJul 15, 2008 22:00:20 | That assumes that all the maps for all adventures in Dungeon are representable via Dungeon Tiles. I think they use dungeon tiles when setting up their maps. It's actually kinda funny how they match. The Dungeon Tiles 3 set had a 2x4 pool of glowing green goo in a pit. The adventure in the back of the Dungeon Master guide has two of those pits and has two rooms with 4 coffins spread out just like the larger room tile from that set. The thing that bugs me about this is that they stoped printing the first set that has the more generic large rooms. |
| #40MrHotterJul 15, 2008 22:17:40 | I think they use dungeon tiles when setting up their maps. As a follow up to this, I was looking at the first Scales of War dungeon and saw map pieces taken right from the Dungeon Tiles. The floor runes from the Von Jallach Crypt room are right from Dungeon Tiles 2. The statues in the Fresco Chamber are from DT 2 as well. I have a feeling that the DDi dungeon builder will have the Dungeon Tile sets built into them so that all maps we see will probably be made with this in mind. |
| #41doppelgangerJul 16, 2008 11:02:16 | That assumes that all the maps for all adventures in Dungeon are representable via Dungeon Tiles. That may not be the case for all future adventures, but so far the Dungeon adventures that I have seen have aligned well with my Dungeon Tile collection. Including a checklist for the adventures that do use Dungeon Tiles would certainly make my job as DM a bit easier and 4E seems to be all about making life easier for both players and DMs. |
| #42The_Rooster_02Jul 16, 2008 13:16:01 | Yes, please give us printable maps, including player maps so we can at least reference them to the battlemat. The more handouts the better. rooster |
| #43DMapleJul 16, 2008 17:13:00 | Another vote for better resolution and maps without the DM information. Also could the map of mystery appear like it did for Delver's Dale? Rather than a very poor resolution only in the final PDF. People have been asking for this for several months now. |
| #44MarkBJul 16, 2008 17:18:22 | Nor Can Kinko's be sued by WOTC or thier parent company when Permission has been granted. Nor would they be sued if you went out selling printed Copies. You are liable not them. It occurs to me that it'd be trivially easy, once you have the source material, to whip up a PDF of copyrighted images with the phrase "Permission to print for personal use is granted" inserted at the bottom of each page - and the staff of Kinko's have no way of telling that PDF apart from a genuine one. If that occurred to me within 30 seconds, I'm sure it's occurred to Kinko's lawyers. Unfortunately, this may be one of the reasons why they won't provide printable versions of those maps. Not only are their copyrights tied to other WotC products, which will complicate the process of getting them cleared for reprinting, but by using those images - and not providing them at full resolution - WotC are encouraging sales of Dungeon Tiles. |

If only there was an easy way to figure out what sets/tiles I need for each adventure. I remember running a Dungeon Eberron adventure that used the D&D mini's tiles, the precursors to the dungeon tiles. That was a major pain so I don't look forward to it. Having to overlap tiles to make a room was no fun. rooster |

That was a major pain so I don't look forward to it. Having to overlap tiles to make a room was no fun. That's probably another reason why they made any dungeons so far based on the current dungeon tile sets. I also noticed this nugget on the Dungeon Builder info: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/insider/dungeonbuilder The D&D Dungeon Builder allows you to create dungeons from a robust library of digital dungeon tiles. The dungeon tiles can be arranged in myriad configurations to suit your needs. Many of these 2D tiles are rendered in 3D on the D&D Game Table. I'm guessing the library will be based on current dungeon tiles. That means that all maps we've gotten so far can be created with the Dungeon Builder. |
| #49TintagelJul 17, 2008 21:25:45 | These might be helpful for those running KotS. They have all of the map keys, room numbers, traps, etc. Removed. I use them with a virtual tabletop software (d20pro). KotS Maps Hopefully I won't get sued, but I'm simply following the convention of many years of Map Galleries that WotC produced for their 3.5 products. These maps encourage people to buy the module. WotC, LISTEN TO YOUR CUSTOMERS. We want (and will pay) for digital content such as high-res maps (player and DM versions) and such. |
| #50henrixJul 18, 2008 3:49:24 | Thank you, Tintagel! |
| #51DMapleJul 18, 2008 6:45:58 | Maybe they are listening? I know this isn't for Dungeon but look at this preview article. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/4ex/20080717 The look at the resolution of the separate map they provide. Now if only that map didn't have the locations of all the NPCs it would be perfect. |
| #52malcapricornisJul 18, 2008 14:45:00 | I also need to vote for full maps with no DM keys as part of Dungeon/Dragon/Published modules. Token art would be nice too. |
| #53shamurai7Jul 18, 2008 20:04:06 | i think this will happen more as WOTC gets used to the freedom of the digital format, and has "adjusted to the water" so to speak.... im not sure they have fully realized all the cool things they can do with digital yet.... but here on the boards we can give them a friendly nudge! :D |
| #54RangerRobJul 19, 2008 23:43:52 | i would love printable maps as well. |
| #55PsikerlordJul 20, 2008 7:46:10 | If dungeon "mag" came with printable battlemaps I would definitely be buying an insider subscription. It would be brilliant as a DM time saver and pure game enhancement. Who doesn't love to see those colour maps come out for the big battles!!?? This would be a major breakthru for the game. Folks could still use their dungeon tiles/battlemaps for unexpected battles or random encounters, etc, and the printable maps for the scripted encounters. I add my voice to the mob - PLEASE do this! |

| #57john_paul_stoddardJul 22, 2008 22:33:38 | These might be helpful for those running KotS. Tintagle..have you notice that a certain Company is using Dundjinni to produce Maps for thier New 4E Modual. Take a look at the preview and see if you don't regonize the Artwork... |
| #58jwtJul 23, 2008 10:01:26 | These might be helpful for those running KotS. This is brilliant. Thank you so very much! Please take notice WOTC. This is something you could easily provide, and it would increase customer good will immensely! |
| #59zikadikJul 23, 2008 13:42:11 | WIZARDS! Please listen to us! I will pay you good money for high quality customized maps for adventures. I don't want random tiles stuck together with little or no dungeon dressing. I want stuff tailored for the adventure we bought. There's no reason not to do this. We have the technology, we have the demand, and it would be easy to do. |
| #60lao_tzu_02Jul 24, 2008 21:58:46 | I would like to add my voice to say please do this. I'll add to it some photos from my Keep on the Shadowfell game. (spoiler warning for those playing). http://www.flickr.com/photos/28998972@N08/ It looks great, speeds up play and the players love it. |

Nice setup. One big mistake on the table however. Orsik is drinking a Sprite. If a drink has no alchohol then it better have caffine. That's like bringing pretzels with no salt. |
| #62lao_tzu_02Jul 25, 2008 20:24:45 | Nice setup. Ahh yes, but he had already finished his Bourbon and Coke, so there was salt to go with the pretzels. ![]() |

| #64lao_tzu_02Jul 28, 2008 3:31:16 | I scanned the map in at 400dpi then using photoshop and the marque tool to measure a square on the grid (for example it could be .25 of an inch, therefore an increase in size of 4 fold was required). I then cut and paste the image into a new file (A4 size to make printing easy) with the dpi set at 100. Clean up the DM markings and done. By the end it took me about 2 hours to complete one level of the KotS. |
| #65lao_tzu_02Jul 28, 2008 4:00:59 | I have created some maps from the SoW module. The resolution is ..ok for the encounter areas, but the full map is virtually unusable and the encounter areas don't cover the whole map. I ended up with someparts in a good resolution matched with parts that are not. Hence the request: Dungeon staff, please provide us with high res maps! |
| #66ArksornJul 31, 2008 18:59:08 | Is anyone from Wizards listening? Can anyone reply? Is there any chance of this happening for the third 4.0 version Dungeon? |
| #67enriquebertranAug 07, 2008 10:17:18 | Can you provide a full tutorial on how you printed out the full map using photoshop? I havwe a scanner & photoshop, but am having a tough time scaling the map and printing it out like you did. I didnt really understand your short explanation either.... Can you help me out? |
| #68evilrefAug 07, 2008 10:30:41 | With paid subscription starting in a month, this really needs to happen. One of the big advantages of a pdf is that you can print out the maps & handouts, or use them in virtual gaming tables and so forth. Without that advantage, or with it reduced due to the resolution of the map, a level of perceived worth of the pdfs is diminished. It would have a minimal time investment to accomplish this (note, I used to do layout for a living, so I know what the time would be) and add a substantial perception of worth to the magazines for your customers. |
| #69menkephtAug 08, 2008 21:54:06 | Not only scaled but clear of monster info etc. yes the monster info can remain on the thumbnail version of the map. |
| #70menkephtAug 08, 2008 22:19:24 | I remember running a Dungeon Eberron adventure that used the D&D mini's tiles, the precursors to the dungeon tiles. They should make the tiles like that with larger roll out map to stick them too. Place everything on the colourform room and have it ready to just lay out flat on the larger map area. :P place holes and rock slide when they happen. |
| #71lao_tzu_02Aug 10, 2008 1:44:26 | Can you provide a full tutorial on how you printed out the full map using photoshop? Sure.
Once this is done you can remove all of the DM stuff (or you can do it before) I hope this helps. |

But they will say they already have provided high res maps. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/dndacc/0786943483 http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/dndacc/957307400 http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/dndacc/957317400 ![]() |
| #75TintagelAug 19, 2008 7:08:47 | Please listen to us! I will pay you good money for high quality customized maps for adventures. I don't want random tiles stuck together with little or no dungeon dressing. I want stuff tailored for the adventure we bought. There's no reason not to do this. We have the technology, we have the demand, and it would be easy to do. Agreed. All issues of copyright could be brushed aside and we would be happier customers if they would simply produce new and fresh maps for modules. I am getting sick of seeing the same dungeon tiles, or low resolution maps for the adventures. Give us something along the caliber of these maps: http://www.educatedgamer.net/gallery and we will pay. |
| #76ethilristAug 19, 2008 10:54:52 | That does look pretty cool, but man, it must go through a lot of colored ink... |
| #77TintagelAug 19, 2008 21:05:56 | These aren't meant to be printed out on a personal printer. Some folks take them to Kinkos or Office Max and get them printed as a poster. WOTC and Paizo do that too, and that's why I am mentioning these. These maps are begging to be made into folded poster maps. Perhaps they are sold as a map folio separate from the module. You could buy Expedition to Castle Ravenloft, for example, and for another $10-20 you could buy quality poster maps for miniature play - every map you need in the module! How cool would that be? Not everyone would buy of course, but I am sure many would. Of course, I don't print a single one. I have never printed one. I use d20pro for my virtual tabletop. Just my laptop, my 17 inch monitor, and the software is all I need. Sold my minis and battlemaps long ago, and haven't looked back. My players love playing directly on the high-res maps too, and at $30 it's a steal. You'd pay that much for 3 packs of dungeon tiles. |
| #78TintagelFeb 09, 2009 0:53:03 | WOTC - if you are listening... We want battlemaps! Oh, and I'm available for hire. :D http://educatedgamer.net/maps.htm http://educatedgamer.net/gallery |
| #79AegeriFeb 09, 2009 6:17:35 | I agree with having good untagged high resolution maps. This would greatly enhance my ability to use the modules I've bought and dungeon magazine adventures. |
| #80panthineFeb 14, 2009 1:27:57 | Got my vote. 1/ Full size printable maps in colour and b/w format (I dont care if I have to stick em together). 2/ Non player info removed. 3/ Have them SAME TIME as buying module! Ps im already a subscriber (to do this I work a JOB - because of the JOB I have less prep time for my campaign)PPs dont listen to your subscribers = Less subscribers |
| #81kutuluFeb 18, 2009 16:31:06 | I just took a look at the KotS side quest adventure and was a little surprised the maps were only simple thumbnails. Scaling the maps up is pretty simple using free tools like GIMP (or Photoshop if you own it). Measure the size of one square in inches, pull up calc.exe and punch in 1 / , to get the scale factor, then scale the whole map up by that factor. For example, say you select a square and it's .227" x .227". Calculate 1 / .227 = 4.405, so scale the image up to (width * 4.405) x (height * 4.405) and it now prints at 1" scale. It took me maybe an hour to scale up the all maps for the first 3 Adventure Path PDFs. The bigger problem is that there aren't any player maps included; even if I scale the map up, I have to spend many more hours blotting out or erasing the DM key markers. Keep in mind, the scaled up maps are much bigger than the thumbnails. For example, the scaled up map of the streets of Brindol for the second Rescue at Rivenroar encounter is bigger than the entire PDF. I can see why WotC would hesitate to include every map, scaled up, twice, in the PDF. If they're taking suggestions, here's mine: include a thumbnail version of the full color unmarked map, and a simple grid *overlay*: black and white, with just the markers and landmarks on it for the DM to use. I just need to know what squares to put my monsters on -- I'll figure out from the player map that the square happens to be a pile of rubble. |
| #82rebogenboJun 25, 2009 8:29:44 | what I usually do regarding the non available battle maps in full scale is let my friend who is a graphic designer redraw the maps for me while this is not an available option for everyone i am ready to share these maps if it does not break any legal disclaimer. i am still running the "keep on the shadowfell" so the only maps i have are the dungeon interior first level and the sidetrek maps. please tell me if it is legal to provide the maps i have if it is so i will be more than glad to share them cause i know how much a headache they can be. |
| #83john_paul_stoddardJun 25, 2009 14:24:18 | Maybe they could mussle their way into an deal with worldworkgames and provide something like this http://paizo.com/store/downloads/pathfinder/pathfinderTerrain/v5748btpy8763 Funny how Paizo is leading the way Now.. |
| #84fvincentJul 14, 2009 9:53:03 | As a DDI subscriber, I love the maps made available to me. I'm a DM unsing maptool to play with people all over the country and having those hi res maps ready for use in my game saved me a ton of time and inspired my adventrues. Unfortunately, Dungeon 166 and 167 no longer have the untagged maps for me to use. This means me having to go in by hand and remove the monster info and DM notes. HUGE PAIN. I appreciated having the untagged maps in the previous map galleries. They were a big part of the appeal for DDI to me. I would really, really love to see their return. |
| #85PhobosJul 14, 2009 10:13:03 | Funny how Paizo is leading the way Now.. Now, as in hasn't been doing so for years? |
| #86slobo777aJul 15, 2009 7:53:47 | +1 vote D&D 4 needs battle maps to play well. One of the first steps in "going digital" has to be (at least in my mind) providing battle maps for use by players. No need to choose a technology for projection/gaming table etc yet. Just the basic graphics assets, to use whichever way works. At the moment I use Dundjinni. |
| #87PhobosJul 15, 2009 8:12:44 | +1 vote It won't happen, my opinion. Providing free, even low cost paid, print out maps takes away from those tile things they sell. I spent $35 on a two sides Chessex 1" battlemat that is as large as my table. I spent $5 on a pack of dry erase markers, 8 colors. I've not needed anything since. |
| #88slobo777aJul 16, 2009 2:59:31 | I spent $35 on a two sides Chessex 1" battlemat that is as large as my table. I spent $5 on a pack of dry erase markers, 8 colors. I've not needed anything since. That's still one of the most cost effective and flexible options of course. It doesn't come under my heading of "going digital" though . . . keeping battlemaps as a physical print run only is a major barrier to "going digital" in general. Now, if there was a decent digital grid that was as easy and flexible to use as a wipe-clean map, that would be very cool. Most require more setup than that - I'm not aware of any that you can simply scribble on during play and have effects (such as LOS, movement, note) happen without lots of clicking around and detail work. You can hand-wave and explain so much with just a few pen strokes around the table, that nothing digital comes close yet. |
| #89Talaeden_DenthiirJul 19, 2009 21:27:23 | I agree. Please WotC give us: battle maps, adventure maps (taverns, etc. come to mind), dm maps, player maps, tokens, handouts, etc., all for use with miniatures. And I saw it in an adventure awhile back, I'm cool with you using dungeon tiles with dungeon adventures. ~Teo |
| #90zaukrieJul 23, 2009 20:27:12 | I love worldworks, but they've utterly failed to deliver on time for Paizo and their fans, but don't let facts get in your way of constantly ripping on WotC. |
| #91malachielJul 26, 2009 21:38:16 | I have been using the images from the mapper program in photoshop, printed at 300% scale, to create A4 dungeon tiles. I cut them up to match the campaign map. My campaign is currently running Rescue at Rivenroar. My preferred method would be to copy-paste the encounter rooms and be able to print them right off, with only a few corridor sections needed to connect them up. It'd be even better if we could get access to the images the PDF writers have used to put down various things, like beds, tables, chairs and other furniture. This way, the players can make their own dungeons and print them off as necessary. I have also had PC's pick up items like tables and use them as barricades, so having individual pieces is desirable over pre-set rooms. Lastly, what is the tool that the writers use to create the PDF maps? Any chance of this being made available to D&D Insider subscribers? That is something I would love to get my hands on. |

| #93dmoore076Aug 05, 2009 16:48:12 | Just adding my voice to the chorus. There's really no reason we shouldn't get high-quality printable battle-maps for the cost of our D&D Insider subscription. I mean, the maps are already made, they are already digital, and they look great. |
| #94john_paul_stoddardAug 05, 2009 19:45:04 | I love worldworks, but they've utterly failed to deliver on time for Paizo and their fans, but don't let facts get in your way of constantly ripping on WotC. I assume your talking to me.. You wanna state some facts on that statement. I can support my ripping of WOTC.. :P :P :P :P :P |
| #95doppelgangerAug 06, 2009 10:00:05 | I assume your talking to me.. Some of the facts can be seen here at Paizo |
| #96john_paul_stoddardAug 06, 2009 19:39:17 | But what has Paizo failed to provide as promised vs What has WOTC Failed to provide Does Paizo provide digital aides as promised? |
| #97rolloSep 03, 2009 10:53:21 | Yeah.. I would totally like to see full scale printable maps for adventures published in dungeon. I am currently running the first of the Tears of Ioun triligy and I took the maps from the gallery, scaled them up, and printed them. This has worked very well for level one of the tower, but the others don't have version of the map without the monsters marked on them. come on... |

| #99individualitySep 16, 2009 21:41:15 | I can't say that I have enough money for ink to print off maps, and I'm fairly artistic, so getting a big sheet of blue paper and using chalk isn't hard for me. However, I can see where other people are coming from, and it doesn't seem like it would be much of a deal to WoTC to scale the maps up before publishing them. The page count might go up considerably in the magazine, but I don't see that being a real problem. I might be wrong. You've got my vote. I wish y'all the best. |
| #100gsquirrelgoSep 30, 2009 7:11:27 | Please please please include scalable printable maps with DDI subscription! Also if you don't want to make a separate player and DM map at least put the DM info on a separate layer from the map graphic so we can delete them our selves in Acrobat.
