| #1neithermanJun 29, 2009 16:37:52 | Where is it? I heard there was going to be something of this variety on offer for 4e soonish. That was over 6 months ago. My group sorta fell apart for a few months(Everyone was busy) but now we are aiming to get everyone back together, so I go to look for this software and cant find neither hide nor hair of it. It was the ONE AND ONLY THING that would have made a d&d insider subscription worth anything to me (the compendium is a hilarious joke). and I cant even find mention of it. Did it get integrated into another product? is it hiding somewhere? Can anyone give me a clue? |
| #2captcommyJun 29, 2009 18:43:10 | Yeah, try using the search function or reading some of the other threads on the board. |
| #3mdonaisJun 29, 2009 18:49:13 | The Character Builder is part of the D&DI Subscription. As is the compendium. You can download a free version of the character builder (level 1-3) from the D&D website if you want to check it out. There are some rumors of another tool coming out but not in June. |
| #4whitebaronJun 29, 2009 19:14:41 | There are some rumors of another tool coming out but not in June. You're realizing this is not really helping to broaden the trust into WOTC, when their own employees kinda hint at shelved or indefinitely delayed tools? |
| #5mdonaisJun 29, 2009 19:27:09 | We just aren't allowed to give dates. Sorry for upsetting you. |
| #6neithermanJun 29, 2009 23:26:53 | TY captcommy for being of no help whatsoever, searching did not provide any definitive answers. Thats why I posted. to MDonais , I could not care less about the character builder, or the compendium. The compendium is not a useful product for my group, and character generation is not something for which we require/desire automation since it frequently makes the integration of third party materials difficult. Im asking about the dungeon-building/digital-tabletop tools that were advertised some time ago. I am not asking for a release date, Im asking if they exsist in any form anywhere. |
| #7whitebaronJun 30, 2009 7:03:26 | We just aren't allowed to give dates. Sorry for upsetting you. PR 101: giving out malformed information is the worst you can do. Your post implies that even WOTC employees don't know what there will be. Even if it is so, you should not post THAT. It makes one feel like we're talking to script monkeys instead of intelligent people. I's not about dates. not at all. It's about how you paraphrase "i know something but i won't give it to you, A-HA!" |
| #8mrmythJun 30, 2009 9:58:17 | PR 101: giving out malformed information is the worst you can do. Just to be clear, here, Whitebaron, here is the list of possible options you think are acceptable for WotC: 1) Despite not having a firm release date in mind, announce one anyway, then be excoriated by the fan base when unable to meet that deadline. 2) Due to not having a deadline, remain silent, and avoid any communication that might result in misleading information. Be attacked by the fan base for lack of communication. 3) Remain in touch with the community and continue to reveal as much information as you can give, focusing only on information that you can guarantee the accuracy of. Be attacked by Whitebaron for doing so. Seriously, he isn't giving out 'malformed information' - he is saying that another tool is in the works, but that it won't be out in June. How can you possibly interpret that as a hint that the next tool is 'shelved or indefinitely delayed'? |
| #9ranger76Jun 30, 2009 11:34:45 | There are some rumors of another tool coming out but not in June. This is the problem right here. I agree with Baron. Surely if you're going to post anything at all you could be a little more definite example "We are working on another bonus tool that should be out in the fall." example "We have a surprise in store, more information to come" Both of these examples sound better then what was posted without giving any additional information away. But talking about rumors and denying any kind of commitment is so vague its absolutely useless information. |
| #10Dane_McArdyJun 30, 2009 11:46:35 | This is the problem right here. I agree with Baron. Surely if you're going to post anything at all you could be a little more definite I was fine with the way he said it. I was able to fully understand what he was getting at. |
| #11WotC_TrevorJun 30, 2009 16:04:54 | Alright guys. Give Mike a break - he was only pointing out that there is more informatoin about an upcoming tool. We just started talking about the Monster Tool section of Adventure Tools over in another thread yesterday and we're all pretty excited about sharing that information wherever we can. Now I know Mike didn't mean to imply that he and his team, who are the ones designing these tools, don't know what tools they were working on. If his words were misinterpreted to that extent, I'm sorry for that. As to dates - No, we're not going to talk about release dates, release months, or even a ballpark for releases. Once we get comfortable with releasing any of these tools or updates, then we'll start talking dates and date ranges. To your original question Neitherman, the Game Table is currently not being worked on, but it sounds like you're more interested in the Adventure Builder/Dungeon Builder aspect that was linked to the Game Table. While I don't have any news specifically about that, we are working on a set of Adventure Tools (read above and the thing Mike hinted at). The first of those tools is a tool that helps with Monster lookup, editing, and creation. It makes sense to me that another possible Adventure Tool would be something about mapping out an adventure/dungeon - whihc sounds in line with what you want. Of course this is just speculation as the only tool we're working on right now is the Monster Tool section of Adventure Tools. Once that's done and out we'll have more information about our next step. If having that VTT and a dungeon building tool is the only thing that's stopping your group from getting together, there are other options out there. All the links escape me at the moment but a quick scan of the forums should find a few. If that works out for you, great! Hopefully we'll have something in the DDI suite of tools that will interest you at some point in the future. |
| #12neithermanJul 08, 2009 13:22:31 | Thanks Trevor for actually answering my question! Our group is getting together regardless of whether I can track down dungeon building software. But, since wizards has done their best to kill 3.5, and the support we want for 4e just isnt there, we are probably going to move to the rifts system for the foreseeable future. |
