Hmm, I'm not sure if I like where this is going. It looks an awful lot like "and that folks is why Grehawk is no longer around.". The fact that the Living Greyhawk is getting replaced with Living FR seems to confirm my suspiscions.

Hopefuly I'm wrong, I like Greyhawk and would hate to see that they decided to scrub it in 4E.

Any thoughts or insight?

Greyhawk is not the core anymore, and it's an older decision.

It may be one of the settings of the year, so it's not quite gone... I would be for it.

I just wish personaly the greyhawkers stopped taking it personal and be angry at fans of other settings, myself. It's not personal, no hate of you or even the setting per se.

Well thanks for the reply.

As far as being mad at fans of other settings, taking it personal, ect. I certainly hope nothing in my post came off that way. The main point of this thread was to see if anyone knew what was going on with Greyhawk.

Am I dissappointed? That my favorite setting might be going away? Yes. And I reserve that right. You just have to accept that Greyhawk fans are going to make thier opinions known about the possability of their setting of choice being done away with (whether it eventually is or not.). That's their right just as FRC fans hve the right to voice their oppinions about the numerous largescale changes that are being made to that settings.

Like you said, It's nothing to take personal.

I just know what will happens - the fandom of GH is... vocal. And it's the thing that always made me not care for trying the setting at the end, to be frank.

It's not the opinions, it's the fan rage.

I dont know why this article bothers you. Tharizadun has been trying to destroy Greyhawk since at at least the days of WG4, thats all this is talking about. Given the comments from Experience I would guess we will see 4th edition Eberron in 2009 and Greyhawk in 2010. Also realize that Tharizadun is the chained god mentioned in the Worlds and Monsters book, so he is part of the default pantheon now (along with 20 others).

The Elder Evils as a whole are meant to be campaign enders, either just the storyline for the group, going out in a blaze of glory for the characters, or the destruction or complete make over of the setting should the heroes fail (or at the radical change even if they win).

Just as Die Vecna, Die was meant to explain in game the changes between 2nd to 3rd edition, the havoc caused by the Elder Evils being loosed could be used to explain in game the changes between 3rd and 4th editions.

But the basic them behind them is all things come to and end; campaigns, characters, worlds, civilizations, and whole settings. But at least in this case they can go out with a bang.

I found out that the adventure Fate of Istus was used as a in-game explanation of the 1st to 2nd edition changeover.

My biggest grievance with Elder Evils is the low CR of most of the Evils. Compared to Archfiends (the BoVD versions or the less powerful Fiendish Codex versions), Abominations (Epic Level Handbook), Great Wyrm Dragons, or the Great Old Ones (Call of Cthulhu d20 stated them for use in D&D) from they take their insperation, these guys are wimps with few exceptions.

Atropus is pretty crunchy as is but since he is supposed to be the origin of the Atropals (ELH), I would raise hit die and apply the evolved undead template (LM) and maybe the entropic creature template (PlH).

Pandorym is quickly becoming my fav just because it need no tinkering in my eyes, it's body as described sound exactly like the Umbral Blot (ELH), and having the mind shard posses the body (changing the umbral blot from a construct to an outsider and using the better of the two sets of stats), increase the blots HD to huge (80 HD) and would have the following stats; STR 48, DEX 15, CON 42, INT 35, WIS 33, CHA 37. It should have a CR of 34 or 35.

Its probably a little late to update 3.X material to be stronger ;).

As a side note: Greyhawk city is mentioned in the MotP, so its safe to bet its going to be a setting.

Except that none of the cosmological changes at the end of that module actually match the ones that happened with the advent of 3e. ;)

Hey Sheme, its been awhile!

Trust me I will never claim that the in-game changeover adventures do their intended jobs well... or at all even.

I've noticed an almost DBZ like escalation of BBEGs in the varied 3rd/3.5 books, Elder Evils, Archfiends, Abominations, Great Old Ones, Aspects of Evil Gods. Its like having Frezia, Garlic Junior, Cell, and Majin Buu all active at the same time.

Although I'm playing around with the idea that Asmodeus is the patron of the party sent to take out Zargon (he could do secretly or not depending on party alignment), his motivation being whom ever gets destroyed he is rid of a thorn in the side.
