Encounter Builder & Monster Blocks

Jul 29, 2009 16:34:18 I seem to recall WotC saying some time ago that there would be no further development of the Encounter Builder and that it would remain "as is". Has anyone developed a version of that tool that displays the full monster stat blocks from the Compendium, instead of just the summary blocks we get now.

In addition, the ability to save and reload encounters for later editing would make the tool very valuable. As it is now, it's a time saver, but far less efficient than it ought to be.

Thanks Trevor, the Monster Builder is great, but it doesn't do what I want, which is to allow me to print off sets of monster blocks that match an encounter I've built with the Encounter Builder. I can go into MB and manually select the monsters from an encounter I've built in EB, but that makes it a two step process.

Does anyone know if there's going to be an Encounter Builder version as part of the Adventure Tools? The inability of the current version to save and load encounters for later editing really limits its utility.

Jul 31, 2009 14:06:38 The Encounter Tool was really just a nice little toy for someone at Wizards to show what they could provide. At some point, they stopped doing anything with the bonus tools, instead focusing on the real applications. I would think that once we have some kind of mapping tool (Dungeon Builder?) then it would logically follow to let us take the monsters from the Monster Builder, the maps from Dungeon Builder, and get some nicely formatted (and saved/loaded) Encounters that we could eventually put into the Adventure or Campaign Builder. Obviously, Trevor knows WAY more about what is going on than I do, so I could be totally off with my prediction, but I would just copy/paste your encounters from the Bonus Tool version into a document and then copy/paste the RTF from the Monster Builder until we get the full version. Sorry.

A common request has been to print multiple monsters on a single page. WotC has added this to their list of suggestions and bugs. With any luck, you'll be able to build 'encounters' this way in a (near?) future update.
