Many people make their own encounters, and once in a while you make one that makes you go wow that was great and want to share it with as many other players as posible.
Woulden't it be nice if Wizards made a section for that.

where they would give a template for how an encounter should be written layout wise.
then letting players build encounters and post them, with a sytem where you could leave coments on the encounter, and rate it with a system like 1 to 5 stars. ( many sites where people can post their own fantasy stories or art have a system like that)

you could add tags to the encounters you write like:
lever range
monster types
dungeon/outdoor

to make the encounters easely searchable for other players.

but if wizards would do somthing like this i think that section would become DND insider only.
this to alouw people to just copy paste monsters from the monster builder and magic items from the compendium freely in their enconters.

That kind of interaction (with ratings, browsable, searchable etc) would be nice for monsters, PCs, NPCs and other custom content too. Probably if it were D&D 4E specific and crunch-based, this would be a useful service, not readily available elsewhere and would add value to DDI without huge outlay for Wizards.

Some of the compilation threads in the homebrew etc forums attempt to provide this kind of service, and there is IMO some very high quality work in there. The problem with the forum approach is low accessibility. What an official supported service could do to improve things:

1) Consistent format.

2) Compatibility with other DDI tools.

3) User ratings, feedback and comments

4) Browsing and searching

. . . even just a small fraction of the above would make sharing and using shared content easier and more rewarding for players.

Got to be realistic though that core services of CB and MB still require work. I'd love an encounter builder, and to share my homebrew too, but not holding my breath in 2012 for it to appear.

This is a feature I've been requesting for some time now. Allow us to use the tools to make characters, monsters, encounters and campaigns and let us mark them as public so that they're searchable and viewable by other subscribers. It's at that point that DDI will really come into it's own as an online tool I think.

Plus, nothing more public then this sort of playtest, so +1!

Good luck, I'm still waiting on a simple index of Dunegon mag adventures. What you propose does sound really great and would add a lot of value to a DDI subscription. It mystifies me why WotC doesn't make these simple tools that make our subscription that much more valuable.
