I'm running a group through the Adventure Path, and have played in it (just finished Alliance at Nelefus two weeks ago), and my player group and I were discussing the idea of swapping "The Temple Between" and "Beyond the Mottled Tower".  The more I thought about it, the more I like it - you dispose of Sarshan at the end of Heroic, and start Paragon by saving Overlook - it also brings the Githyanki into the picture more cleanly having a General be the first challenge of the tier.

I wonder, has anyone else tried this?  It looks like most of the TB enemies will need to be 3 levels higher, and the BtMT enemies lowered by 3 levels to start, and there are few story bits that will need a small amount of juggling, but it shouldn't be too hard.

I didn't do that but I suppose it would work just fine. I filled the BtMT slot with a homebrew adventure that ended in vanquishing Sarshan. I wasn't a fan of "subtle"  Sarshan flooding the world with interdimentional sewer slime.

Psh, whats not subtle about sending torrents of elmental chaos given physical form down the middle of the streets.

It does throw a few things off though.  Sarshan is trying to kill Megan because she knows his connection to the githyanki that just recently invaded and he doesn't want anyone to find out.  The Temple Between starts without you knowing about any invasion.  So, either you are going to find out about it earlier from Megan or Sarshan is going to have a different reason for trying to kill Megan besides covering up his alliance with a failed invasion.

Yeah, that struck me as strange too... especially when it was the party that showed up in the Shadowfell and had a hand in disrupting his operations at Umbraforge. And hence brought word of what he was doing overall to Overlook.

One thing I thought of is in conjunction to the wizard that Megan is there with. I'm thinking that making the wizard a sort of scrying specialist that has uncovered a lot of Sarshan's plans and movements and then sent the Freeriders to stop him at various points would cause Sarshan to specifically target the Freeriders over the party. The party disrupted some plans, but the Freeriders end up disrupting even more key plans. Course, the Freeriders can't handle the heat of the death squads and split up. Hence the party needing to step in, save them, and take the fully prominient position (as they should!) in the forefront of fighting Sarshan and the Githyanki.

As for the Blood Chaos attack by the normally more discreet Sarshan... I'd attribute it to the infusion of Blood Chaos causing him to go nuts.
