You can actually get +8 to instead of +4. Here is how you do it. If you pick a feat when you select a lower level feat slot it still shows the feats that you have already picked for later levels. When you pick it at the lower level slot it removes it from the higher slot and then puts it in the lower level slot. Well it just so happens when you do this with the 3 Epic Defense feats that instead of the defense remaining the same it adds another +4 on it. When I looked at the character sheet it had a +8 in the MISC spot. If you remove the feat it then drops by 8 back to where it should be. I will make a note that I have not yet upgraded with the July CB as I like to wait for feedback to see if WoTC broke anything in their new Update. You know like they did in June heh ;). Just thought I'd mention that in case this was already addressed in the newest update.
