| #1kyros_tachyusAug 31, 2008 14:52:17 | I've heard a rumor recently that REALLY disturbed me. We can only get Errata for 4e through DDi? So if you DON'T have a subscription, you're SoL for Errata? |
| #2hellmuteAug 31, 2008 15:13:59 | I would hope that is ONLY a rumor, but with the previous web content provided for D&D and the new DDI model, it is hard to tell what is part of DDI and what is not since the archives list everything in the odd menu system for the D&D website. |

Stated plans indicate that Errata will be provided accessible to all, member and non member. There is no reason to change this as it would upset the gaming community. Do not believe everything you read. |
| #4WolfStar76Aug 31, 2008 16:11:30 | DDi has been stated time and again to be an optional portion of the D&D experience. Separate from the rulebooks, but an enhancement to them. The rulebooks include errata (since the errata changes the rules therein, and make sure that those of us that bout books "now" will have the same rules as those who buy their books "tomorrow). I'd have to dig a good ways back, but I'm pretty sure it was asked point-blank if Errata would be DDI or not, and the answer was the DDI would remain free. I think it was an answer from Scott Rouse. In a nutshell, DDI isn't going to take anything away that has been free in the past (Errata, RPGA, blank character sheets, etc). DDI is an optional supplement/enhancement of the core product. |
| #5hellmuteAug 31, 2008 16:57:50 | DDI IS optional, but so is errata. ;) |
| #6kyros_tachyusAug 31, 2008 21:13:25 | Well, I believed a lot of what I read about DDi before the 4e release and a lot of that has proven to be untrue as well. And there have been some things that they changed that OBVIOUSLY upset the gaming community. So I wouldn't be shocked at all if they did this, just even more irritated than I am already. I'd really like to hear from WotC_DM on this one (seeing as how hes the only one that has effectively given us information on these forums). |

Well WotC_DM can not speak to marketing or business design plan or plan changes except how it might effect the programing (at best). That is left to others to do, alas most of the others do not inspire much trust when they post or say something. |

If HE says it, no matter which department it is from, people will probably believe it and respect what is said. Again, a funny thing that the non-native English speaker is the best one communicating to people on the forums. ![]() |
| #9koukAug 31, 2008 22:38:52 | Just check whether you are required to be logged in in order to access the Updates (under Products tab). That will be the current answer. |
| #10hellmuteAug 31, 2008 22:51:46 | Just check whether you are required to be logged in in order to access the Updates (under Products tab). I had to log in to get the update from this month or ended up on that strange page like trying to download the DDI article PDFs themselves. Maybe that was since fixed? |
| #11GrazelSep 01, 2008 17:36:58 | Currently you don't need to log in to get the errata files from the products->Updates section. You do have to log in for the Dungeon and Dragon files. Also you don't need to log in for the excerpts. DDI content on the main D&D page at least at this point is limited to downloading the pdf's that are under the Dragon and Dungeon sections, all other content is not tied to DDI. Errata will show up in the rules compendium before it shows up in the product errata section though (like the stealth change), since the rules compendium is updated frequently while the errata sheets are done only every month or so (and as the book gets older probably less often). |
| #12hellmuteSep 01, 2008 17:41:00 | When it becomes a pay service, the problem will arise where no one knows what is what with it all being the same site except for the CMS saying you need to log in, and the problems had with it and getting it working as is could continue to be problems that disrupt the free content. Insider SHOULD be its own website, and not a subsection for the D&D website. |

I'll agree with that, as it would help alleviate a great many of the issues listed above. Though the entire site has been in need of a decent reworking for quite some time. |

| #15hdierSep 02, 2008 9:51:03 | I'm 90% certain that Errata will be available without D&Di. They are already releasing Errata for free, and it's not some 'free trial' of errata like the Compendium and such are. Also, you heard this in a rumor, which usually stems from truth: I could easily see many ways that the 'Errata will be available sooner with D&Di' could be transformed into 'Errata will only be available with D&Di'.Thanks, Hdier |
| #16KentinalSep 02, 2008 11:19:05 | I'm 90% certain that Errata will be available without D&Di. A long time ago I asked about this. The answer I received then was because of the way Errata is handled Insiders and non Insiders would have access to the material at just about the same time. That being an Insider would not provide much, if any, advantage as far as timing of Errata releases. |
| #17koukSep 02, 2008 23:52:41 | A long time ago I asked about this. The major difference in timing may come from the different departments in charge of things. Odds are the guys with the pay service are little more prompt about putting stuff on the compendium compared to the webmaster loading up a bunch of new pdfs. Doesn't mean they will be (with recent days as examples) but probably. |

Under this CMS everything works the same way, thus why the compiled Dragon and Dungeon for August are non-existent so far.... |
| #19PaulonSep 03, 2008 21:47:11 | The compiled issues are there, though there seem to be browser issues with downloading Dragon, and they've lost the Expeditionary Dispatch from that issue, pushing it back to this month. ![]() |

I bet a regular old link would work but having to check for being signed in causes a bit of problems making the client-side portion verify. Wonder if there is a way to make the testing for being signed in be server-side?So that article was missing missing or just not in the PDF? I never look at the TOC. [/derail] |
| #21PaulonSep 04, 2008 13:11:09 | They had the article in the 366 table of contents, but they haven't released it. Instead they added it to the 367 table of contents. So maybe a release this month. Not encouraging me to pay for anything if they can't match their own planned release schedule. |

So maybe a release this month. Not encouraging me to pay for anything if they can't match their own planned release schedule. And here I was all about complementing them on making the Dragon and Dungeon a-=la-carte so people could get them without having a fully subscription, and they cannot even maintain any kind of quality to them. They are going to have to end up making those free as well as errata, since they are pretty much just playtest versions of some things that will exist in future products. I don't pay to playtest your game. Never paid to do any beta testing before, and never will. You pay ME to test your product, not the other way around! |
