Essentials info disappear from Compendium?

I've been mostly DMing for years and may be about to get an opportunity to play.  I really like the Essentials Mage from the minute I saw it on the Compendium.  But now it appears that most of the info has disappeared.  The 1st level Mage is still there, but other than that there are just powers that look like any other Wizard powers.  The class features are gone.  The Enigmatic Mage PP refers to class features (such as Master Mage) that  don't exist anywhere in the Compendium.

I am sure everyone else noticed this a while ago, but can anyone tell me what is going on?

Thanks.

It could be you're screwing up your search somehow.  Or it could be a glitch.

Though I'm not a DDI, I can search the Compendium (just not click through to the details), and all the Enigmatic Mage powers are there.

Really?  You are finding the "enigmatic action" for the non-HoS mages?  You found the Master Mage class ability?  Weird.

Plus weren't there other class abilities for the Mage that weren't granted at first level and weren't associated with a PP?  I thought that was the benefit of Essentials classes: you got stuff as you went along that weren't just powers like the standard 4e classes.  At least that is what it seemed like last time I read Mage in the Compendium (months ago) where there was a complete 20 level class advancement and not just 1st level stuff like now.

Because I'm not an Insider, I can search for classes or powers, but not view the write-up.  So, if I search for 'Enigmatic Action,' it returns the Mage, in which the Enigmatic Mage PP is detailed, but I can't click through to view it.  It's a class feature rather than a power, so you can't search for it and view it by itself.

Read through the Mage in the Compendium, and you should find Enigmatic Action.

Short answer: you can't access the Compendium but you are sure it is there.

Ummm...thanks.

Anyone who knows what they are talking about want to take a crack at this?

I also noticed that they removed the class write-up when I wanted to check something about a Scout earlier this week. It seems they decided to take away the full class description from the Compendium to leave only basic level 1 info. I assume this is to push people into buying the books. I think this is too bad myself. Another trimming of valuable DDI content.

No: Short Answer is that the Compendium is available to all, but doesn't show you the content if you're not an insider. Basically, it goes, "Yes, it exists!"

You should be more respectful to those who are trying to help you out.

I don't consider answering a question you know nothing about to be "helping" any more than it would be "helping" to write a book report for me if you haven't read the book.

Thanks.  That is what I assumed but I hoped I was wrong.  Sigh...I may not play the class simply because I don't agree with this marketing ploy.  I pay money every month to have access to the info I need at my fingertips.  I own all of the PHBs but I don't like to NEED them to look up something about my PC.

You could use Character Builder. Not as quick to search, but it should be complete.

Yeah, I agree. Note that it's pure speculation on my part that the info was removed for marketing purposes. I don't see why they would remove the info once it's there however.

It seems to me like there is no transparency also, they just remove it and don't tell anyone, maybe thinking no one will notice?

So what's the point in removing it from the Compendium if the info is there (and needs to be, obviously) in the CB?

It's probably a glitch, or an issue that cropped up when they tried to update the compendium.  Best thing you can do is inform customer support on the off chance they aren't aware of it.  But, if it's been going on for over a week, they probably are.

Good idea.  It doesn't seem to want to update on my (crappy old) computer but I think it runs on my roommates.  Thanks.

There is already a thread about this in the DDI forum.  WoTC_ Trevor said it is an error from cleaning other stuff up and they are going to fix it.

Double sucks for me as I can't use the CB to print out a PC essentials class (or anything for that matter) and one of my players wanted to play a Knight. No gamestore here and shipping stuff from Amazon to New Zealand is stupidly expensive. We were supposed to pbe playing 4th ed today but it looks like we will be playing Star Wars Saga.

Essentially stuck using the old offline character builder. At this rate Pathfinder is looking better ATM despite problemms at higher levels. At leastt I can buy PDFs at a reasonable price and print them off and have access to game material.

Mother went into hospital this week and I don't have a spare $50 ATM and its beside the point. Paying money for DDI and the compendium and CB are semi useless. CB is in effect read only.

Yeah Zardnaar,

Really sorry to hear that about your mom, hope she is well for mother's day.  If it matters, my prayers go with you.

Thanx its just that DDI is my primary source of 4th ed material. The compendium lacks the complete write ups for essentials classes and I can't use them on the offline CB and I can't use the new CB in any real way due to some bug that stops me printing out anything. Theres no local game store that has 4th ed products and I had a few bills arrive lately that rules out a purchase from Amazon as I have used it in the past to buy 3.5 and Star Wars Saga material. Normally the players will chip in for a 4-5 book order for RPG materials but they don't want to buy 4th ed material. They'll play it but don't want to spend money on it although I'm trying to change that.

Wow, Lokiare's gone for such a short time and we already have a relpacement ***hole.

Just... stop.

People can access the compendium without an account just fine, and since you were talking about the SEARCH feature which anyone can use, we are perfectly capable of tech supporting you.

Wow. What a jerk.

Actually you are wrong, while you can search the compendium to see how the class write up for all the essentials classes have changed to lose all the leveling data that use to be there and is necessary to use the class, you need to be an insider and actually open the entry.

I started the other thread (the one that Gelatinous linked) and it will be interesting to see how things are come a week from now. Trevor's post was in no way a promise but it does say that full service most likely won't be back until May, which this is. To me that implies that service should be back up on the 17th. If that is not the case... well I hope we see an explanation.

Interesting points brought up in the old thread (after I stopped looking at it apparently) concerning the fact that full write-ups for some pre-essential stuff does not exist either. I believe (don't quote me though) that these have been longer standing absences. The lack of alternative options for some classes (Paladin) in their write-ups being the most noticeable and irritating to me at least.

All in all though we have had some feedback on this issue, so that's good. It seems to me that we should all probably sit back for now and give WoTC the chance to follow up on this.
