I'm incredibly frustrated with you WotC. Even if the article is PHENOMENAL you'll never get another cent of my money. You've had a month to make this right and at the 11th hour you push it back again. I'm done.

I am dissapointed it is pushed back... but I'm going to give it the benefit of the doubt. Maybe it will be amazing. I hope so, or they're gonna be driving nails in a lot of coffins with DDI subscribers. Let's hope it blows doors off hinges and strangles Elder Dragons to death.

What Dragon article released this month merits this delay? Don't tell me you have been too busy finalizing redundant Backgrounds and writing hand-holding articles on how to reflavor powers to finish the most important project you have this month.

I can't really argue the last month or so of DDI articles, but there's a whole other thread for that. I know the Content Calendar is something that is subject to change, it says so at the bottom of the screen. I just hope they actually explain this one. The second time it was pushed back, I hope to see another article just explaining everuthing.

I am very disappointed as the article now comes out atfter my subscriptions lapse. I was using it as Wizards final and only chance before I was going to decide if I renew (given how disappointed I was with the magazines and DDI over the past few months already). I guess Wizards made that decision for me then, because I'm not going to be able to see it to make up my mind if I should renew.

Poor form Wizards. Poor form.

Da This one article is all that had keep me from ending my sub early ( found a better and updated cb then the online one) so I am trusting it will be worth it. If not another one bites the dust.

Same here, except for the cb thing. The executioner either ends or saves my sub for at least another month. The fact that we've had no CB update yet is sickening.

This is... not entirely unexpected. WotC has a long tradition of pushing things back from months- occasionally years at a time. A long and some might even say 'proud' tradition of teasing the customers with something cool, then ruining it for everyone.

So, while I waited with baited breath to see how WotC would screw this up, I wasn't really surprised that they pushed it back. Angry? You betcha. But not surprised.

I buy that you're busy with holiday preparations and that you've got less people working in the office and whatever other reasons you've come up with- but I don't buy that you haven't had time to work on this- not with the debacle last month, and not with having this on your plate since October.

I don't buy that you couldn't fit the time in to make it right between writing more articles with +2 skill generic backgrounds that nobody will ever use, or yet another set of mechanics to make Changelings the least supported player race in the game.

What you were doing with that extra time, I do not know. I can envision what it might be, but I have nothing substantial to go on. Presumably that time was spent on the office christmas party, on hookers and blow, and whatever else it is you do behind closed doors, secure in your knowledge that your customers are willing to believe that you're good people, despite how time and time again you screw them over into the ground. Despite all the disappointments, and all the people who outright quit and take their money with them, there are still people who want to believe that WotC is the company it used to be, when it still gave a damn.

Alas, experience has shown that the people who used to matter most- the customers- are worthless save for the money you can weedle out of them.

Let me tell you, it ain't good to feel worthless. But if this is your goal, WotC, you're sure doing a great job at it.

You know, I can't stay angry forever. I guess I'm at the point where I just don't care, save for one thing. I want to know why.

I don't care if it's a bad reason, if the reason why is 'because we can'- I just want to know.

Why don't you care anymore?

This is absolutely infuriating and inexusable. As has been said before in this very thread, there has been more than ample time for WotC to get their ducks in a row on this one.

My guess on the reason for this is sheer laziness and no accountability. I understand that the developers are players themselves, but I have a hunch that the boss-lackey relationship is far too casual, resulting in softer and softer deadlines. "Hey boss, great game last night! I'll never forget that one encounter. By the way, I haven't done diddly-squat on that Essentials Assassin article yet. Yeah, I know it's due in 4 hours. Yeah, I know you already pushed back my deadline over a month now. I'll have the article done by Tuesday....I promise this time. And the Essentials Revenant update will go better....I promise on that one too. So back to our game, here's what I have in mind for my character between sessions....blah blah blah."

I feel like I'm chasing after a mirage.

I'll say it again - this is absolutely infuriating.

The printed mags imposed a deadline that writers and editors had to respect every month... And they did.

Having the mags on the net now opens the door to abuse. Such delays would have never been accepted or acceptable by any editor of the printed versions. Bad WotC, bad!

Not quite, in print media they would just delay it until the next month. So I guess we can all try to think about it that way, it's only a few more days inside of another month.

And honestly, a few of you doom and gloomers need to relax(sans DDi accounts lapsing, I can sort of see that one). I was looking forward to seeing it too, but I can wait a few extra days. It says right at the bottom that it's a schedule that is subject to change.

Which is better waiting a few more days or getting something broken sooner?

I don't really have an opinion/concern about this particular article, but would like to add my disappointment with the softening of schedules compared to a hard copy magazine.  I subscribed to the old mags with very few breaks going back to Dragon 77, and can't remember any cases of promised articles not appearing on schedule.  But, we all know that print magazine editors have their issues ready way before they go to print, whereas the online issues are clearly not running under the same criteria.

Predictable, predicted by many in 2008, and disappointing.  Wizards, please try to see these as whole, inviolate issues, instead of a flexible tool you can adjust at will.  Your customers would be much happier.

I am utterly sickened with this turn of events, and the only reason I'm not canceling my DDI subscription outright is because I'm certain that I won't get the refund for the months I paid in advance ("We lack the staff during the holidays to process your refund, but we've still canceled your subscription. Now you can't complain to us that we took the rest of your money). Unless the Essassin is fantastic, though, I might give it a try anyway. I haven't bought anything since the RC and HoFL, and both of those were massive disappointments anyway. The RC is arranged so poorly as to be almost inaccessible - I feel like I need to memorize where everything is before I could actually use it as a reference - and the Heroes book wastes more than 20 pages on one class.

What a waste of a life. Wizards should be ashamed of their lack of productivity and customer satisfaction, but they're too busy with their nostalgic self-gratification and resurrection of old and failed concepts. We haven't gotten a single new character idea since Essentials started; everything is just a rehashing of decrepit designs from earlier editions.

Once again: plenty of people have reported receiving full refunds.  What does it hurt you to try?

Unless you're shouting about how mad you are, but you actually want to keep your sub for other reasons (the Compendium, say) as I have - in which case, say so ;)

I'm really giving it one last chance to wow me with the Essassin (because, dammit, I really liked the playtest version!), but then I'm gonna give it a go at trying for a refund. The Compendium's nice, but I don't think it's good enough to merit paying for what I can already do with the old, computer-based CB. I mean, I already have that installed, so I don't need the Compendium as badly as others, and I haven't really made use of anything else anyway...

On one level, I expected this to happen. I said to myself "with so much relative fan support riding on this, they can't possibly be making it happen so soon. They're going to pull it for a few days and look it over." Yup, that seems to  be the case.

I'm... disappointed. My feelings towards Wizards of the Coast as a company lately have steered from hopeful enthusiasm to optimistic disappointment. Maybe they'll fix everything soon -- an update that heals the mechanical flaws in the Assassin, announcing a Player's Handbook that details four new shadow classes in standard 4e style, and giving us that damned Int/Con stat boost somewhere! But right now, I'm sad. And I'm sadder as each new article proves to be useless to me.

So... Wizards of the Coast, I'm waiting for that Executioner. I'm disappointed, but hopeful. I'm honestly not expecting much, but deep down I want to see everything that the playtest was and more. Dazzle me.

I'm basically in the same boat. Kind of a hopeful pessimist. I hope that they will right the wrong, but at the same time feel like they have no interest in doing so.

First, we got the Assassin, which was garbage. They hyped it for months, then gave us... that. Next, we get the Executioner  playtest. This was fantastic. It looked like an assassin should look (relatively low consistency, but massive burst damage). Then, we got the first "final" version, which kind of told me that WoTC has no interest in ever producing a useful assassin class. It looked almost nothing like the playtest, and was just poor poor design. Even if it was incomplete, what we had was awful.

So now we come to the final final release (?). Given their history at destroying this thing, my expectations are low. Given the massive response and feedback on it, my hopes are high that they've listened. My sub relies on it.

Ok, so it has been pushed back, I hope this is a good thing. I hope it is to give them one last weekend to edit and compile the artiicale. I hope it makes it an overall stronger artcile and build.

From my point of view (and I love the orginal class even if it gets a bad wrap on here) it is a good idea, that needs more fleshing out. I like the martial at wills, and the poison daily's, but without those extra d6's on weapon attacks from teh playtest I fear it is not going to keep up.

But don't you think 2 months is more than enough time to edit it?  And let's be honest, it's not like they are going to do too much with it over a weekend.

And 1/2 the content that will be added from Dragon 392 is for Essentials (earth domain and elves), with beast rangers getting some love, and wardens too (which is fine by me).

I love these threads, if only for the sheer comedic value of people indicating how they are "utterly sickened" about a delay of a D&D article, which is referenced by another poster as "inexcusable," and how pretty big assumptions are made (manufactured, fabricated are all good words here) about why there's been a delay.

WoTC, you guys are far from perfect, but keep churning out a good product and I'll keep buying it.  Put out junk, I'm not buying.  But I'm pretty sure I can get by in my life for another month if you miss a deadline.

Yup, that would be my post, and I stick to it. I seriously doubt they needed the two extra days to work on the article. It's not just likely that after all this time they've been working on it/putting it off that inspiration and the manpower to see it through is going to come in those two days.

It's not just the assassin article, although that is a huge symptom of the problem. The reason I'm upset about this is that the assassin (and the revenant) are advertised in printed books as DDI material only, and then they use that kind of thing as a carrot to lure their DDI customers on a month-by month basis. Another example of this kind of conduct is the classic character builder and their misleadings that lead into the new CB. Nothing of what they are doing is illegal, but I feel like the carrot is their new business model, and it really ticks me off.

Now, I've been a DDI subscriber since the beginning, with a small lapse because of a card change. I can accept that not all articles in the magazines are going to apply to me personally right now. I'm happy to read a good article for what it is. I'm seeing a trend, though, of less and less care taken in the magazines and the DDI subscriber. It seems like they're so focused on the bottom line that they forgot the proper methods on how to *get* to that bottom line, which is customer satisfaction.

To be clear, I really enjoy 4th edition, and the printed products are great. I feel that it's the best edition so far. My problem isn't with 4th edition, it's with DDI in general. If I had my druthers, WotC would go back to quality printed mags, and I would drop my DDI subscription.

Also, I wasn't expecting the December CB update coming the 21st to be that good, so I'm quite pleased.
And as I commented on the blog post announcing the delay of the Assassin (which is my favorite class), I prefer it when they tell me an exact date and the reasons (more or less true) for a delay, comparing this to when an articles simply doesn't come out, and you have to dig into the calendar to see when it has been pushed or if it's still planned at all.

The thread opener commented on the same blog with big words and sheer hysteria, something that I think truly is "inexcusable" behavior, considering it was a developer's blog. Developer who found himself in the position of whom would be heavily accused for deleting comments, thus being obliged to keep not one but two awful comments in his public blog.

All this is over the Essentials version of the Assassin, right?  The Martial class with a few Shadow Utility Powers?

I bought a 12 month subscription in September 2009, to vote with my wallet for the Assassin.  The class was quite good, but needed a bit of love to be on par with some others at higher tiers.  Unfortunately we've really only seen racial feats since then.

In September 2010, I voted with my wallet by letting the subscription lapse.  We did not get the 3rd build for Assassin that we were promised in "early 2010."  Instead, classes like Monk, which have been out for a shorter period of time, already have a 3rd build via sourcebook.  This shows me that a magazine subscription for the exclusive content is not as good as a book for non-exclusive content.

That little red dragon beside my avatar is gone until they get back on track with these things and Dragon content returns to what it was around Fall 2009.

Well let's say I'm young at heart.

I had friends involved with the company and liked what I was hearing.  It sounded like things were going to turn the corner and the next 12 months were going to be promising.

Most importantly to me was voting with my wallet for the Shadow Power Source and the Assassin.  Frankly the investment was worth the vote for me, since it was the only thing that got me interested enough to even start playing.  I was not a fan of the play style of any other classes (3.5e Scout fan).

THe Assassin is really the only class that I enjoy playing.  I was looking forward to more Shadow Power Source classes, like a controller or leader.  I am partly interested in the lore of the source and largely interested in the mechanics.

Unfortunately this business holds things very very close to the vest.  We have zero idea what we will get in the next year, since they do not tell us.  I expected things to be as good or better.  What I got was many months of delays in magazine content to the CB/Compendium and a drastic decrease in magazine content.  I have voted with my wallet again.

The essentials Assassin has needed quite a bit of work. The first playtest version was beyond broken.  They could literally kill just about single thing by round 2.  The newer version while still having the same flair was toned down (and now just about on par with the rest of the dps classes) but lacking in feat support.  My best guess is that they are still working out mechanics for feat support w/o breaking it again.  The delay was probably inevitable due to changes to the class.  While WoTC is most definitely NOT the best run company when it comes to public image, after the necessary changes to the class you all should have realized that the final product would be delayed.

Note:  I will never quit paying for a product over one thing.  If that was the case, I would never play any MMO.  They do more sweeping changes (and definitely not for the better) than they do here.  Meh, cancel your accounts and whine about it, if you are going to throw a fit over this.

They couldn't kill just about anything by round 2. Unseen Spear was highly situational and took a perfect setup to pull off. The second version couldn't keep up with even the lowliest of strikers because of the lack of the striker feature. The at-will they gave with extra damage had severe weapon restrictions which made it sub par. Should check out the CharOp boards to see how bad it really was.

It's safe to agree they went from interesting variation of a rogue/shadow assassin/poisoner to the worst class in the game just behind the Seeker.

It should be interesting to see what tonight brings.
