| #1ranadielJan 22, 2009 21:25:38 | Well the new calendar is up apparently. Here is what is listed broken up by type. Dragon Pay Articles Playing Shadar-kai Necromantic Rituals Bane Spotlight Interview Planar Epic Destinies Dungeon Delves Returned Tarmalune Ampersand Design & Development Dragon Free Articles Editorial RPGA Report Confessions Dungeon Pay Articles Scales of War #8 Depths of Madness House of Pain Save My Game Dungeoncraft Editorial Dungeon Free Articles Vicious Venues Previews The Shaman Primal Power Excerts Player's Handbook 2 Free In the Works Digital Insider Fiction: Black Crusade Podcast Use This Book Tonight Penny Arcade Podcast #1 So now it is time for everyone to analyze to their hearts content. I personally feel that this looks to be a slight improvement from the last two months at a first glance. Although as always it does depend heavily on the quality of the articles themselves. |
| #2Fox_ReeveheartJan 22, 2009 22:22:26 | Eh..... You click on january calendar and it still takes you to february.. fail |
| #3JohnLynchJan 22, 2009 22:23:49 | It looks like we're getting 6 features and 6 columns for Dragon. This is considerably better and what we got in the 2nd pay month. As for stuff I'd find useful, I'm only really seeing the Shadar-kai article as being useful anytime soon. Which unfortunately has been about par for the magazines lately. |
| #4_Mithreinmaethor_Jan 22, 2009 22:41:40 | I am finding it interesting that they are listing things as Pay and Free |
| #5copproJan 23, 2009 2:03:18 | Depths of Madness was this month. Also, is it just me, or is Dungeon contentless this month? No standalone adventures ![]() |
| #6citanJan 23, 2009 4:23:57 | Looks like there is hope :-) The articles for Dragon do look interesting and finally we won't be treated with more than one preview article instead of an article. I'm wondering what the "Dungeon Delve" article has to do in Dragon Magazine, but let's see, maybay it will contain options for delving characters. An article on the church of Bane would be interesting. Tarmalune will be a new Realm article which is great. Playing Shadar-Kai sounds interesting. Necromantic Rituals may be very cool. Planar Epic destinies... ok... I don't think we need them, but we got less intersting stuff the last months. It still bothers me that there are no great feature articles like the gladiator articles and no class acts. But - that has to be said - it is an improvement over the last 2 issues. Febuary is a short month after all and maybe March will continue the positive trend. |
| #7celloshaneJan 23, 2009 12:02:08 | Dragon Free Articles Where do you see that these are free articles? Non-subscribers can't access this material. |
| #8mudbunnyJan 23, 2009 12:18:30 | Eh..... I have already notified CM about this. |
| #9ranadielJan 23, 2009 12:21:41 | Where do you see that these are free articles? Non-subscribers can't access this material. I made the assumption that anything in italics(with the exception of the Scales of War #8) was free as almost everything that I knew was going to be free was in italics. In retrospect that might have been a mistake as I had forgotten that Ampersand and Design and Development have been pay content. However the editorials, RPGA Report, and Confessions are free. My apologies for any confusion brought by not double checking things. |
| #10ArtifactJan 23, 2009 12:32:08 | Nice to see the number of articles has picked up slightly. Not much to catch my eye this month though. I'm actually looking forward to holding off because it means I won't be hassled with canceling auto-renew this month. Nice change of pace :P. As far as trying to remember what's actually free and what's pay, I still haven't gotten it all straight. |
| #11Drax_HoakJan 23, 2009 13:28:21 | So... Where the heck's the Avenger preview? Hopefully it's in one of the PHB2 previews, cause I'd be disappointed if the class I'm most interested in is the only one not previewed... |
| #12GlimmTheGnomeJan 23, 2009 14:34:07 | So... Where the heck's the Avenger preview? The calendar lists 4 excerpts from the PHB2 that will be free content on the website, so it's possible that one of those could be part of the Avenger class. Ampersand might also include another preview from PHB2, so there should be a lot of info available by the end of the month. |
| #13celloshaneJan 23, 2009 15:28:19 | I made the assumption that anything in italics(with the exception of the Scales of War #8) was free as almost everything that I knew was going to be free was in italics. In retrospect that might have been a mistake as I had forgotten that Ampersand and Design and Development have been pay content. However the editorials, RPGA Report, and Confessions are free. My apologies for any confusion brought by not double checking things. Vicious Venues, the RPGA report and Confessions are free. Although I'm still confused as to why Vicious Venues and Confessions are free and the RPGA report is considered part of Dragon, but I'm not complaining. The Editorials, Save My Game, and Dungeoncraft are all pay content. |
| #14ranadielJan 23, 2009 16:30:01 | Vicious Venues, the RPGA report and Confessions are free. Although I'm still confused as to why Vicious Venues and Confessions are free and the RPGA report is considered part of Dragon, but I'm not complaining. Okay I updated the list. Although I left Dragon's editorial as free content since I can view the last two without logging in. |
| #15celloshaneJan 23, 2009 17:28:11 | Heh, you're probably right there. Honestly though I was hoping you'd prove me wrong about that list because I'd love to read Dungeoncraft. |
| #16tomlibJan 23, 2009 18:53:27 | I'm slightly concerned they apparently don't even know the title of the 8th Installment of the Scales of War Adventure Path. Must hold tongue ... fear of banning ... can't, arghh, glack, wait ... nooooooooo! :D Tom Edit: I see the adventure now has a name. That is good! |
| #17CailteJan 24, 2009 6:05:16 | Well colour me happy about the Shadar-kai article. The rest is very wait and see. |
| #18aberzanzoraxJan 24, 2009 9:56:18 | As far as trying to remember what's actually free and what's pay, I still haven't gotten it all straight. As a nonsubscriber, I also haven't. I used to be VERY knowledgable about WotC's site and all of their great free stuff. I haven't really bothered with the new layout. It's unfortunate. The site is no longer a draw for me. I just come straight to the forums now to get my news on what is actually happening. I don't even bother trying to use their free stuff. As far as I am concerned, they might as well make it all "pay" as it's too damn difficult to use the site without membership. Ah well. There are other sites. |
| #19serphetJan 24, 2009 10:24:46 | MmM a bounce back, I look forward to February. |
| #200nderzeebootJan 28, 2009 5:47:28 | Ah, finally, the return of Playing [enter MM race here]! I'm still missing the lovely articles that expanded on classes though Moar Class Acts pleaz! The last one was in november, and it's the best Dragon column there is! |
| #21serphetJan 28, 2009 13:50:47 | or how about more alchemy recipies!!! The system is very cool, but will the idea ever go any further than teh 10 or so recipes? |
| #22maerikFeb 03, 2009 21:53:35 | Shadar-Kai article is gone! |
| #23ArtifactFeb 03, 2009 22:53:10 | Shadar-Kai article is gone! Now all we're getting on the 16th is a preview of Primal Power. Considering previews are not compiled into the end-of-month mag, I don't think that should count as actual content. So much for a meatier Dragon in Febuary (after a lite December and January) . The Dungeon Delve article looks to be a glorified preview, so it doesn't count as much as it would otherwise, in my mind.BTW Anyone know when is Primal Power coming out? I haven't heard anything. Logically, shouldn't Divine Power follow Arcane Power? (due in April, I think). |
| #24serphetFeb 04, 2009 7:04:17 | BTW Anyone know when is Primal Power coming out? I haven't heard anything. Logically, shouldn't Divine Power follow Arcane Power? (due in April, I think). Look at WoTC product list, they've got all the way up to November (draconomicon II) as for shadar kai aritcle gone, *BIG FROWN* |
| #25MockFeb 04, 2009 7:48:05 | Shadar-Kai article is gone! Bogus. So are several PHB2 excerpts (though they're not usually compiled content, I like that stuff anyway). |
| #26zaukrieFeb 04, 2009 8:27:17 | Only two real adventures, one is a side trek. Both of them are part of a serieis. If you are not using the series, what are you getting? Thank god the character builder and compendium are worht the money.... |
| #27citanFeb 04, 2009 14:23:56 | WotC, PLEASE answer to your loyal customer base... we've been buying books and paying for DDI subscriptions, we deserve an answer to the unsettling things happening to Dragon Magazine... If you stay silent long enough your now loyal customers will run off to companies that care for their customers. So please reconsider. By the way: Has anyone called their customer support for answers? |
| #28ranadielFeb 05, 2009 6:30:47 | WotC, PLEASE answer to your loyal customer base... we've been buying books and paying for DDI subscriptions, we deserve an answer to the unsettling things happening to Dragon Magazine... Sorry I haven't been paying attention to the cries for indignation on WotC. So why are we mad at them this time? Is it because the Playing Shadar-Kai article is being released on the 16th? Or is it the decrease in the number of excerts from PHBII and the missing preview from a book that isn't going to be released for close to half a year from now? |
| #29MockFeb 05, 2009 7:24:37 |
It was because the Shadar-kai article was removed from the calendar completely for a stretch. It's been put back on, but it's annoying when something you were looking forward to is seemingly canceled. They've put it back. I, at least, am no longer annoyed. |
| #30hatsumaFeb 05, 2009 8:28:34 | Changing the editorial calendar after feb 1 (when 1-month sign-ups conceivably could have signed up expecting that content) is a no-no in my book. |
| #31ArtifactFeb 05, 2009 9:25:10 | Changing the editorial calendar after feb 1 (when 1-month sign-ups conceivably could have signed up expecting that content) is a no-no in my book. That makes sense. I like knowing what I'm gonna buy in advance; having something yoinked at the last moment is annoying. There is the 'fine print' to consider though ;): "This editorial calendar is a living document. Content may be added, article titles may change, and articles may shift dates for scheduling reasons. The calendar will be updated accordingly to reflect any changes." The editorial calendar gives the readers a sneak peek of an issue still in the works. The end-of-month issue compilation is when things are finalized. I'm just glad the Shadar kai article is back. I've decided I'm gonna snatch this issue after all. A new "Deities & Demigods" recurring feature (and Bane to boot)-- I can't wait ;). |
| #32maerikFeb 05, 2009 20:26:12 | It is certainly nice to see it back, can't wait for the 16th now! I mean, a Primal Power sneak peek will be pretty sweet too. |
| #33mudbunnyFeb 05, 2009 21:59:14 | From WotC_ChuckI just went by Chris Youngs’s desk and asked him about the date being changed on the Shadar-Kai article in Dragon Magazine. He said they switched the Planar Epic Destinies article with Playing Shadar-kai, to make time for another development pass on the Shadar-kai article. |
| #34citanFeb 07, 2009 5:34:49 | Great, thanks for the info! I'm totally ok with pushing back articles as long as they aren't removed. |
| #35victordavionFeb 09, 2009 9:52:09 | So the Shadar-Kai article gets delayed and Planar Epic destinies gets moved up. Apparently Necromantic Rituals are completely gone, and today the Planar Epic Destinies Article is horrendously late. Nice..... This was supposed to be the good month... |
| #36Aaron_HighcolorFeb 09, 2009 12:23:59 | and the Planar Epic Destinies article that was moved up isn't done/ready/up yet! |
| #37ranadielFeb 09, 2009 17:42:22 | So the Shadar-Kai article gets delayed and Planar Epic destinies gets moved up. Apparently Necromantic Rituals are completely gone, and today the Planar Epic Destinies Article is horrendously late. Necromatic Rituals appears to have just been renamed. and the Planar Epic Destinies article that was moved up isn't done/ready/up yet! It is up now. I don't know how long it has been up, but it is up now. |
| #38Aaron_HighcolorFeb 09, 2009 19:18:12 | Yep, already downloaded it. Still waiting for Itunes to be fixed for the podcast though. |
