Final CB update.

Nov 12, 2010 10:55:22 Are the CB update servers still online? I did a one month subscription to inside to get a update to the tools before they switch to online only. The adventure tools updated in a snap, but the CB update seems to keep hanging. It will start, and the progress bar will fill, but at the end it just sits there and does nothing. When I cancel the download I get an error message saying the servers are down for maintenance. It has been doing this for two days. Did i waste my 10 bucks?

Nov 12, 2010 10:58:38 We've seen this problem before. Here's what you need to do.

Uninstall all versions of Character Builder.

Uninstall the .NET Framework.

Download the full version of the Character Builder.

Install the Character Builder, and make sure you let it install the .NET framework for you.

Profit!

Nov 12, 2010 11:29:19 I uninstalled both the .net framework and the cb. I reinstalled cb. I am not sure it reinstalled the .netframework (its not on the list of programs in my control panel.) I still can not download the update. Any other ideas?

I've heard that some people need to run the installer as Admin and then open the CB as Admin to get it to work. I've never had the problem, so I'm not sure which of those steps is the more important part.

Nov 12, 2010 11:43:44 Alternative solution: just wait. It'll hangg for anything up to (in my case) two entire DAYS, before finally the update works.

Nov 12, 2010 12:08:09 It would be obvious if it reinstalled the .net framework. It prompts you for it and displays the text 'installing .net framework' or something similar.

I would try uninstalling again, double-check that you've gotten rid of the .NET 3.5 framework and all of its service packs, then reboot and try again.

If that doesn't work, then contact Customer Service immediately. They should be able to walk you through whatever issue is happening.

I tried downloading it both in Admin and in non-Admin. I can never get it to work unless I am in Admin mode. Even then it sometimes takes several tries to finish.

The cb itself never seemed to initiate a download of the .net framework, but I went in and removed and reinstalled it myself. Although I am eager to see the new online version, I was also eager to make sure I had an updated copy of the old tools on my new computer. Thanks for all who gave feedback.
