It went pretty well. Installed onto Vista 64bit without a snag other than just taking a while to download 2 large files.

I made two characters. The first a Dragonborn Warlord and that went well as well. Apparently the application didn't like me giving a level 2 character a level 3 weapon, but I got that sorted out.

The second was a Half-Elf Warlock. Again fine, except the character took two feats that she didn't have high enough attributes for and I was scratching my head for a while.

Overall it's a good application, but missing some features that hopefully will make it in:

- Export/Print to PDF. I didn't have a PDF "printer" attached, so I downloaded Bullzip PDF which is free and you can print to a PDF right away.

- Just a pain to enter anything non-standard in the game. As a GM I sometimes come up with something out of the ordinary from forms of currency to weird steampunk "magical" devices. I don't expect it to understand weird rules, but I should be able to add a custom armor and choose the bodypart and what it gives a bonus to (like AC, Defenses, etc)

- Portraits. There should be some. Not just one basic one scanned from the class entry, but a bunch. We don't even have that awful 3D art yet (not knocking this product per se, just a sound believe that all 3D art is awful looking if not done by a professional artist. And even then...), so it's up to Google Images.

I had that same issue with the feats. Had a warlord take scale mail proficiency feat but the builder wouldn't let him... because his attributes weren't high enough.

The feat just wasn't there.

Would be cool if it was there but greyed out or red to indicate it not being legal to take.

The portraits thing quite puzzled me too. When I first got the thing upgraded to the full version, the portraits weren't there, but the next time I started it up they appeared in the My Pictures\ddi\Character Portraits folder. (It's also possible they were there all along, but it didn't originally default to the correct folder when I tried to choose a portrait for somebody.)

You can view "illegal" feats - up in the upper right of the feats screen there should be a house icon - you click it (or maybe right-click it) and select "View Illegal Elements." Then all the feats will show up.

I suppose their basic paradigm is "If you don't qualify for the feat, you won't even see it as an option," instead of "If you don't qualify, we'll gray it out."

There are a raft of feats, so on the one hand it's nice to eliminate stuff you don't qualify for; on the other hand, it's nice - during character creation - to see what the qualifications are, so you can say "Oh, lemme go back and rebuild so I can get that feat" if you want to. The way it currently stands, I have to take at least one additional step to even know why I don't see a particular feat.
