I'm starting this to be a groveling forum, to let those who want to be included in the VT Beta, beg at the people who are making the decisions on who is included in the Beta testing .....

(Obviously make sure to go sign up, and enable your notifications before posting.....)

I'll start by saying I would LOVE to be included.  After spending a lot of time with MapTools and Masterplan, I would be an excellent resource for suggestions on possible VT integration options.

(Mudbunny......come on man, put in a good word for me......)

I think I'm related to Trevor......Second cousin twice removed from his mother's side.......that makes me family....Incude ME!!!

*This is supposed to be a lighthearted thread....feel free to grovel as much as possible, to let the VCLs and others know your wish to be included in the Beta testing AS

I really hope that I can get in on this beta test... I have more then 15 years of D&D GMing, and I only tried to do so online once before (a failed play by post)... so i bring the eyes of someone who wants to learn how to play online, but lots of experence with the game itself...

/best Donkey (Shrek) impression:   "Pick me!  Pick me!  Pick me!   Me!  me!"

Reasons to pick me:
I've been playing D&D for 30+ years now, through every incarnation.
I run a weekly game every Wednesday night which has been going for about 10+ years now.
We have 1 player 250 miles away who logs in using MapTool and Skype, every week. The rest of us sit around a table playing using MapTool on our laptops.
We're in the UK so there is a good opportunity to test out how things work outside the US.

Fingers crossed!

I'll volunteer myself as the Devil's Advocate of Beta testers, I promise pretty much everything I say will be critical, but it will be honest.

Previous experience running a campaign Fantasy Grounds, and with one player in our regular game using Skype for months, plus experience with other 4e electronic tools.

Also in the UK.

Admittedly I've cancelled my autorenew, and my account expires in May, but perhaps you can win me over.

I would love to take part in the beta test and I see myself and my gameing group as a perfect test bed to try your new system.

My current gaming group is a set of my college friends of wich all of us are in the military that are stationed around the country and world.  Despite this we still manage to get together for a weekly game via skype and a home brewed webpage that we use for our battle map.

Several of my own and our groups qualifications to serve as beta testers include:

A combined total of 60 + years of player experience with D&D, one other and my self have over 25 years of DM experice combined.
Most of use have served as previous beta testers experienced with multiple games and programs (Lord of the Rings Online and WoW are 2 of the big name ones, yes D&D is not an MMO but they are names people recognise).
Our current and ongoing long distance game can serve as a great test spot for a dedicated gaming group to run the system through its paces.
Over half of our group has had a DDI subscription since the programs launch and the remainder of our group have had subscriptions on and off during the last two years,  despite this several currently do not have an active sub because of the multitude of problems stated by people in other threads.

We would love to have the chance to test the new VT and we hope that it becomes a tool that we can take full advantage of in the future.

Wow, non DDi getting into the Beta before Long term DDi members.

Have to say, that's not only an insult to people that have been DDi members since the begining, but comes across as a bit of lie. Sure they never said that Non ddi members couldn't get in the beta, but they said the process would be friends and family first, then DDi subscribers.

And it seems a lot of the second wave of invites are going to a lot of people that have been long time critcs of WoTC. Which makes it seem like they are getting invited to shut them up.

Well, whatever, thanks WoTC, for rewarding bad behavior, and insulting people who have been DDi members by inviting in people who have never been DDi members.

And before any of you even suggest it's sour grapes, it's not.

Remember: It's not a lie it's a change of plan. WotC don't lie, they are misinterpreted, they are taken out of context, or they have unavoidable/unforeseen changes in strategy.

And it seems a lot of the second wave of invites are going to a lot of people that have been long time critcs of WoTC. Which makes it seem like they are getting invited to shut them up.

Let's see, i think the word was "soon".

To be honest, i don't know what the criteria are on which they choose to invite you, but I guess it depends very much on what they think the system can handle at this moment.
I whouldn't mind getting an invitation either, but that is very much out of curiosity. The VTT is still a beta-tool and I doubt it offers much, other tools out there don't offer.
So lets hope the feedback they get is atleast productive enough to make this tool worth the subscribtion it will most likely require.

I didn't say this was a lie, only comes across as a bit of a lie.

But most of the things people claim they lied about, weren't lies. I can't even say this was a lie, as they never said that non-DDi members wouldn't be invited. They just made it clear it would be Friends and Family first, then from DDi subscribers. Leaving out that non DDi members might also be invited makes it seem like they lied.

I just think it's insulting to people that have been members since the begining. It gives the impression that who gets in and who doesn't isn't random, but picked for reasons we don't know, which makes it seem like favortism or being rewarded.

But it seems like the people who should be rewarded for being long term customers are not being rewarded.

I believe it actually indicated that ddi members would have preference but that non-ddi members would receive invites.  I'll have to go find it.

Edit: Must have read that somewhere else as the announcement indeed makes no mention of non-ddi members.

I certainly think there are DDi members far more worthy (not me per say) of being invited that haven't been, over some non DDi people that have been invited. It stinks to think that WoTC as rewarded bad behavior in some strange attempt to pacify a angry posters. Because it certainly seems like people are being hand picked over randomly picked. And at this point, I'm going to be hard pressed to believe WoTC if they come and say who gets picked and who doesn't is completely random.

If anything makes me lose respect for a company, that's one of the top things on my list.

I can prove that Santa's Elves are REALLY Gnomes!

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house,
Everyone was pining to be in the VT BETA, even the Rouse!
I had just settled down for a long winter's snooze,
And I fell outa' bed when I heward the news!
Then what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But the VT code in my inbox, signed by a Rouseketeer.
The servers faster than eagles they flew,
New York, Madison, Washington, Spain, I could hook up all the crew.
Finally a VT by WotC,
This would be the Christmas I'd love the most!

Pllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasssssssssssssssssssse!

-Been playing since basic.
-Bought almost every 4E book.
-Been a subscriber since the beginning.
-Volunteered at many game stores in many states, two separate countries.
-Ran Encounters in many places.
-Ran DDM Tournaments in many places.

This was posted a couple of days ago, on the beta forums.......

This is nowhere close to a guarantee......however, you should probably step up the groveling to a whole new level.......

Make sure to sign up, AND enable notifications from Wizards in you account settings.

If you haven't already, tell friends to apply to get in. We may open up another wave in the next week or 2 Wink

Q: How do I get involved in the beta program?
A: Initially, the beta will be available in a closed, invite-only format as we test the features and functionality of the tool. As the program progresses, additional people will be invited to participate. If you would like to become involved, please fill out this form and you will be added to the list for consideration.

FWIW, I'm looking to start a new campaign soon.

My original idea was to get started in the new year, using Maptools and Ventrillo.  However, I'd be more than happy make it a long term, take the pain of beta and missing features, test!

It seems like a generally better approach than most to find players, although I'd be looking for regulars to integrate backgrounds into the unflolding storyline.

Is there much by way of 'regular players to games' going on on the VTT right now?

The big issue is that I'll be using my own campaign world,  While I made alot of concessions to 4e (as I have to make it work various rule systems since 2nd Ed), there are still a few quirks that require a little player co-operation to work!

So, a question. As a beta tester, do you get seats for people (like, say, your gaming group) to join, or do I have to play with the other beta testers? Because I like you all very much, but I run for one group, and play in another, and that's pretty much the limit of my willingness to try new things.

If the answer is "play with other testers," that's cool...I will take a look when the VT goes to general release.

The cake is a lie.

I'd really like to be proven wrong, here...

I have been proven wrong. The cake is NOT a lie, repeat - NOT A LIE. Thanks for the invite, WOTC!

Also got an invite today. Not sure how much playing I will be able to fit in but will test everything I can.

Thanks WotCSmile.

It looks like people in this thread are getting invites, so, can I have one now?

On a serious note I play with remote players using a combination of Masterplan, Team Viewer and Teamspeak, any one of which can have a hiccup and stall play. The Vitrual Table will be a god send for me and I think I could give it a good test based on my current remote play experience.

*please be me* *please be me**please be me**please be me*

Thanks!

Good news for you then...
doesn't seem to be that hard to get into the beta.

I would also like to be added.  I have been playing for 30 years and have knowledge compiled from red book through 4th edition.  Have used several VTT in addition to both playing and running games.

*This is supposed to be a lighthearted thread....feel free to grovel as much as possible, to let the VCLs and others know your wish to be included in the Beta testing AS
AP!

If I'm allowed in the beta, I'll give up my fifth-born child. (Sorry, the first four are already spoken for! :D )

As a member of a gaming guild of about a dozen that:

1) Started playing D&D with the ORIGINAL three book edition (Might and Magic, etc)
2) Have played almost every MMO that has come out (some still being played)
3) Have had a few members move away due to life events
4) Have all members in technologically based careers

I would humbly request an invitation to beta test so I can report back to our gaming guild that the "sooner" part of we'll-play-D&D-again-sooner-or-later may come to pass after all!

I also admit to having been am original DDi subscriber who cancelled when it looked like the VTT was a dead project.

Never let my DDI subscription lapse.

My wife will vouch that I don't stop talking DND.

The local DND store wants to put my on their payroll for how much I talk them up (the DND stuff of course).

Love 4e!

Did I mention it's my birthday?  Make my day WOTC!  Please!

Just had a baby, can't meet with my friends to play D&D in person anymore, and really want to try out the beta for the VT.  It's not my birthday, so I can't beat the guy above me .

Its a bit confusing since they let me in the D&D insider group am I eligable for the VT gaming?  I haven't recieved any email on where to download this.  Do they let anyone in the group even if they are not eligable to be testers?  Its kind of a tease if they do this.  I hope the good ppl of VT gaming testers could send me the e-mail if i'm in or consider me as a tester.  it would add great joy this coming holiday season.

You should be able to find directions on the Beta forums if you have been invited.

Aside from getting an email inviting you, the easiest way is to click home above and the check under my groups to see if the ddi vt beta group is present.  I for one found out about the group a day or two before I received my email.

I totally want in the beta!

Simply put, I have a group of friends from all over the state and we get together to play during the summer. We're always sad to put the game on hold once college starts back up again.

I want an opportunity to help shape this into something we can use to keep our game going year round!

I figured I'd try the good ole "here's what we have to offer as beta testers" approach.

We (my wife and I) DM for a party of seven players...nine of us total.

We have more female players than males (married couples, with my sister tipping the scales in favor of the ladies).

We are in that o so sweet 20-30 age demographic! (Oooooo Aaaaaah!)

We use a 47" LCD television with a luidia E-beam setup for a battle mat already.

We are odd birds.

We will provide insightful feedback...perhaps some gibberish as well!
