| #1daddicusJul 30, 2011 1:05:11 | I am a former subscriber to DDI. I let my subscription lapse after they destroyed the good Character Builder. However, I'm still using the old character builder until the campaign we're currently in is concluded. When I bring up the Character Builder, it always checks for updates and forces me to click through to get to the actual product and our characters. Is there any way to alter the program such that it no longer brings up that updates screen? I would like to do so, however, in a way that doesn't violate the license. Despite how I was treated by Wizards, I still prefer to stick to the license agreement, not use decompilers or whatever to alter the binaries. |

I don't recall which one it is, but if you just do properties on the shortcut I'm sure you'll figure it out. |

The properties on their shortcut look like this: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Games\Wizards of the Coast\Character Builder\CharacterBuilderUpdater.exe" RealCharacterBuilderUpdater.exe app.config I created a new shortcut that looks like this: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Games\Wizards of the Coast\Character Builder\CharacterBuilder.exe" and that seems to work. Does anybody know what "app.config" means at the end of the old shortcut? Or, the "extra" EXE file they call (RealCharacterBuilderUpdater.exe)? App.config is an XML file that appears to be setting things up after opening or something. RealCharacterBuilderUpdater.exe doesn't run by itself. It would be nice if I could know for sure that these file names from the old shortcut can be safely ignored. |
