What have your adventurers done with the captives?

There is very little discussion about what the party does when they find the kidnapped victims.
And there are so many options.
I had to share what my group did last night.
They locked Sartanian back in the cell.
Actually they grappled him and manhandled him and shoved him in the cell.
I have no idea what they are going to do when they find more and more people.
It was great fun to watch them argue over the issue.

My party found Adronsius first, and since it's an area fairly detached from the rest of Rivenroar's dungeon and also has a supply of clean water, they brought all the prisoners there as they found them. They also took their extended rests there.

The entertaining part was when they rescued Thurann, they decided he didn't need to know about his father's death until they were ready to leave. Zerriksa, however, thought that was a dumb idea. The boy needed to know his father was dead, and so while the PCs were clearing the dungeon, she told him. They came back to find Thurann being comforted by Jalissa, and everyone else in the room giving Zerriksa some very cold stares.

Our group found the dwarf first. They wound up finding one other prisoner and spending an extended rest where they found the dwarf. After the rest, they left the dungeon and set up well hidden camp about an hour away. They then started arming some of the more capable prisoners with goblin weapons and taking them to the camp as they found them.

My group just dragged them along at the end of the party train. I was kind and didn't have them get attacked from behind, though they did leave the paladin in the back just in case. He then had to spend multiple actions to get into any battle. I think locking them up in a safe room would have been a better idea...

My PCs also just dragged the hostages behind. Most of the dungeon is really pretty linear, I had trouble enough just finding ways to threaten the spellcaster, much less the hostages.

They also found the dwarf first, which was awesome! I didn't realize it when I read the adventure ahead of time, but he leads them on this huge winding path that takes them practically through the entire first level of the dungeon. At every step, my PCs were convinced that "once we get through this encounter, we'll be able to rescue the hostage he's talking about." It turned what could have been a very repetitive slog into something with a lot of anticipation and excitement. It was a simple device, but highly effective. It also helped that in my case, my PCs all had backgrounds centered around Brindol, and I passed out cards to each of them explaining how they knew each hostage (the captain of the guard had been in the same unit as one guy during the Red Hand invasion, the cook made a curried lamb dish that another PC was particularly fond of, etc.), so they really felt a need to rescue everyone.

I like it. And I agree about the dwarf - same experience. His directions made it not seem as tedious, since they felt like they were on the right track every time the description matched where they were.

My players tend to go left or straight, rather than right, at junctions. They found Zerriksa first, then took the left-hand path through the dungeon, but bypassing Sertanian. Except for the Zerriksa detour, it's almost like they made a beeline for Sinruth.

They rested outside after the ettercap encounter, setting up a secure camp using the Create Campsite ritual. Zerriksa decided she wanted to stay in the camp when the party went back in.

The party has also found Jalissa now, but no one else. Amusingly, she attached herself to the goliath barbarian. :D
