I am considering running this campaign with a mixed bag of gamers.

Player 1 is VERY familiar with the Dragonlance novels (he's definitely read all the core books of all the Ages)

while Players 2,3,4,and 5 likely have heard of the Chronicles (and may have read them), but most likely do not have every word of the series chiseled into their brains like Player 1.

I know that Player 1 would really enjoy the opportunity to play in the world he loves so much - but I am afraid that how much he 'knows' in advance will affect his choices and that he will feel as if he has to make certain choices to stay true to the novels. I don't want him having 'premonitions' about what is around each and every corner. I think the other players would get sick of this really fast.

I considered having everyone create their own characters and not use the Heroes of the Lance, but I really want the players who are not familiar with the novels to get to know Goldmoon, Tika, Tas....etc...Seeing how they interpret these character could be a lot of fun for me as the DM.

So my question is this:
Does anyone have suggestions on how I could run the campaign with all the Major Encounters and Characters, and still tweak it enough to keep Player 1 on his toes and not ranting and raving that this is "not how it happened in the books!"?

Thanks!

Let the players make their own characters. They players are going to roleplay their characters however they want anyway. If they use the book characters then they will disappoint you and player 1.

As for other aspects of the game, talk to player 1. Tell him to think of the novels of how one group explored the setting, and that not only will the players be different, but the DM is different as well.

Or be creative and change a few key things in the module (Are they still called modules?). Change encounters or stats to keep the player who HAS read the books guessing. You can still have the main end game but the details can be changed.

Hey,

Does anyone knows where can I find online copies of these adventure books (Dragons of Autumn, Winter, and Spring). I'm planning too on running these adventures but I need to read them first before I go buying them or anything. I have read the books and want to introduce the world to the players but I want to know how are the adventures designed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think you can buy them in pdf format from www.dragonlance.com.
