Dragonlance and D&D 5th edition, a good match?

Is D&D 5th edition well suited to running a Dragonlance campaign? The lack of campaign setitng doesn't bother me, but do the rules allow it to *FEEL* like Dragonlance?

In my teens years I'd read easily a hundred or more novels from the Dragonlance series of books. I love the setting! I didn't play 4th edition much, but didn't think it was well suited to Dragonlance. It "felt" right for imitating the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon series for sure, but not Dragonlance. In my opinion anyway.

Yes and no. It is quite easy for a whole group of adventures to pick up spells. Though I havent read anything besides the War of the Lances Trilogy, I dont think there is that much arcane magic, but thats a smaller issue. Overall I would say that it does fit very well. But with the exception of 4ths high power setting, I think just about every edition has been fairly edition neutral. TO me having a defualt setting should just mean where most published adventures take place. I actually perfer the way 5th did it, with the racial fluff coming from multiple sources, and even the fluff in the classes I can see fitting into just about anything. Unfortunetly Darksun is the exception to that, cause its just so radically different.

I think 5E is perfect for running Dragonlance in.

What's you idea for your campaign?

I'm currently running a Dragonlance campaign. We started with LMoP and I'm adapting it in order to better suit post War of Souls Ansalon (changing the orcs for half-ogre, goblins and etc., introducing "some" draconians). Most of the classes and races you can use RAW, but some tweaking is necessary. There are a couple of nice online resources (Dragonlance Nexus and Tribality, for example) where you can find some conversions. I sure hope we get some official Dragonlance 5e, but I don't really trust WotC to do that after revoking the previous license.

I've been running Dragonlance in 5E.  I set it 400+ years after the War of Souls, such that as per the PHB, Mina is gone, and Paladine and Takhisis are back.  I haven't explained why.  As per the last books the Conclave is mostly broken, so, magic is a lot less regulated, which matches well with 5E.  I've made the Conclave a faction, and I've made the Solamnic Knights a faction as well.  The whole rigid order of the Solamnics and Neraka knights has gone to be more faction, as the gods use Paladins and Fighters just as much as they used to use Clerics.  So a high level Fighter might be a Knight of the Rose, just as much as a high level Paladin.  I didn't quite like the way they did either conclave wizards or knights in 3.x edition.  I've also made it that the broken Kender bred true, so there are more sad determined Kender than the forgetful theif Kender.  I've also interpreted the way the Gnomes took care of their dragon as a way to introduce Mad Gnomes to Krynn in greater numbers, such that gnomes are able to be played, whilst still running into NPC gnomes that blow stuff up.  So, yes, with some tweaking and interpretation of previous literature, it fits quite well.
