#1 allsvendarralos Oct 18, 2009 17:51:31	Hi there My name's Sven. I'm very new to D&D, but not new at all to roleplaying. My DM has chosen Krynn as the setting for our adventure, and with his help I created a Qualinesti Ranger named Allsvendarralos. But I have never read any of the Drangonlance novels, nor am I overly familiar with playing elves, and after the first module I have found myself sort of personality-less. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The stereotypes I have found so far are that they tend to gather knowledge, be secluded especially from races of shorter lifespans, and are difficult to provoke. I have also heard mixed answers as to whether they are or are not arrogant. They seem to typically be elitists, and in my DM's words "are polite, yet stuck up." I would love for Allsvendarralos to be a sort of hero type. He is also the elected party leader for the following reason: the party consists of a half-ogre barbarian, a kinder sorcerer, and a dwarven illusionist. . . . . So a leader, yet a quiet, polite, detached, stuck up leader? Very stumped.
#2 hayabusa Oct 18, 2009 21:03:26	Hello, welcome to the Dragonlance fandom.  Hopefully, LOL.  As for the answer to your question, I got my copy of Races of Ansalon out. It says that they are somewhat arrogant, but not as much as their Silvanesti cousins.  They're also somewhat stubborn, but not to a huge degree.  Another thing it says is that " Most are convinced that their culture and social structure are far more advanced than those of any other race. This trait overwhelmed their principles[...]" [RoA pg 64] So basically, your GM is right.  The stereotypical Qual. elf is a little stuck up, and has a load of ethnocentrism in the way when acting towards others of different races.

I could see myself being able to turn that into a party leader type, not sure I'll go quite so heavy on the accent though. For some reason this character does not come naturally to me. #4 bigmac Oct 24, 2009 19:02:55	The Qualinesti Elf article or the Qualinesti article at Dragonlance Lexicon may help you. The Dragonlance Lexicon is the most accurate encyclopedia of Dragonlance and you will find hyperlinks that take you to many related articles. Surf around and you can build up a picture of the setting and how your elf fits in it. But don't forgot that your elf is not a clone of other elves. You can start with one of the many elves listed in the Qualinesti Elf category at the bottom of the article, but as your elf meets people, he will learn about them and can (if you desire) change his opinions. Your elf could even turn their back on their own race's values, if you wanted (although they would risk being branded a Dark Elf and cast out).
